Hello all
I have followed my tree back to my GGG Grandfather Robert williamson c.1786 p.o.b unknown who I think married an Ann Johnstone c.1786 p.o.b Midlothian in Skirling, Peebles, Scotland 23/12/1806.
On the in 1841 census I have her Living in Tobacco Str Duddingston and South Leith without husband but with some of her kids. Her occupation is down as Grocer. This one is definately my ancestor.
I would really like to know more about these two as my tree stops here I was a Williamson and believe we have Indian (not cowboy & Indian) blood as my Grandfather was Indian in appearance. I have seen things on the net that say this is so & for this reason would like to get this line as far back as I can.
Most of the family remained in the Edinburgh area yet one of the daughters - Margaret 1813 is on the IGI as having been baptised in Liberton, Lanark 12 JUN 1816 ?
Any help greatly appreciated

Hi Emma,
I have done some searching for last hour or so but I cannot get to prove any of your facts. Do you have any certificates to confirm, these facts are correct.
I have aslo searched IGI, can see the chistening of Margaret in Libberton, but I could not find any other siblings of the family. I saw Ann Williamson in 1841 census, but 1793 birth would make her 13 to 17 for age at wedding, with rounding up, possible. Hopefully, you can reply with other info to assist search.

Dear Tom,
I have my grandfathers birth cert with his parents on it & have followed the trail.
They were Robert Williamson & Catherine Wilson married dec 31/1873 portobello I have marriage cert.
From that I found his parents, Robert Williamson & Isabella Law mistranscribed as Loa in 1841 census.
In 1861 census living 116 Pipe street lane Duddingstone Edinburgh.
Somehow, right now I can't find proof how I found out, that his parents were Robert Williamson & Ann Johnstone, I have the illegible marriage cert dated 1806?
I do have lots of certs if you would like to see any in particular
Thanking you most humbly
Emma in Spain

Hi Emma,
In IGI I have found your great x2-grandparents extracted marriage record, on 30 Dec 1850, Robert Williamson & Isabella Law. They had following family on IGI,
ISABELLA WILLIAMSON b 04 NOV 1849 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland ROBERT WILLIAMSON b 19 FEB 1853 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland JOHN WILLIAMSON b 12 OCT 1854 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland ANN JOHNSTON WILLIAMSON b 20 NOV 1857 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland SUSAN STEWART WILLIAMSON b 13 AUG 1859 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland ELIZABETH LINDSAY WILLIAMSON b 23 SEP 1862 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland THOMAS SAMUEL WILLIAMSON b 01 DEC 1866 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland Highlighted in red , will be your great-grandfather, and in orange proof the Ann Johnston is in family.
Will need to try and get birth of grtx2 grandfather now.

Hi Emma,
In the 1861 census, Found Robert & Isabella and family in Pipe Street Lane, Portobello,
Robert Williamson 30 b 1831 Corstorphine, Edinburgh - Railway Labourer Isabella Williamson 33 b 1828 Ormiston Haddingtonshire - Labs wife Isabella Williamson 11 b 1850 Portobello, Edinburghshire - scholar Robert Williamson 8 b 1853 Portobello, Edinburghshire - scholar Ann Williamson 3 b 1858 Portobello, Edinburghshire Susan Williamson 1 b 1860 Portobello, Edinburghshire
Looking for Robert Williamson 30 b 1831 Corstorphine on SP, cannot get a result but there is 1 on 23 May 1830 to Robert & Elizabeth Williamson. Will check for maiden name, may help later.

Hi Emma,
In the 1851 census, Found Robert & Isabella and family in Pipe Street, Portobello,
Robt Williamson 24 b 1827 Corstorphine Edinburgh - Labourer (griebmahers?) Isabella Williamson 23 b 1828 Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire Isabella Williamson 14 Months b 1850 Portobello, Edinburghshire
Change of ages, could make a difference. I will search SP back to 1827. Still cannot get a result on 1827 went back to 1820 still no result in Corstorphine. Trying to pin him down in 1841 census.

In the 1841 census at Tobacco Street, not sure where that is, maybe Portobello.
Ann Williamson 48 b 1793 Midlothian, Scotland - Grocer Margt Williamson 21 b 1820 Midlothian, Scotland Nicolas Williamson 18 b 1823 Midlothian, Scotland Robert Williamson 12 b 1829 Midlothian, Scotland John Williamson 10 b 1831 Midlothian, Scotland
Slight change of age again for Robert, but birthplace as Midlothian does not help much. Mother is Ann born about 1793 but it was nearest multiple of 5 and rounded down. On census it is 48, could that be accurate, not for 1806 marriage. So how do we get back to Robert Williamson & Ann Johnston(e)?

Hi Emma,
I have seen marriage of Robert Williamson and Ann Johnston in 1806, I am a bit worried that this could be incorrect one, due to age at marriage of Ann, if 1841 census is correct. The christening of Margaret at Libberton, to the parents Robert & Ann, only give me more doubt. So that is where I am stuck.
