I have just come across a school photograph taken when my mother was a pupil in 1921. I understand that the school was demolished in the 1960's together with Vaughan Street where she lived. Does anyone know of any photographs of either the school or the street that are available. Many thanks.

Hello,
The school was on Boundary Road, I think, between numbers 31 and 67.
Vaughan Street ran onto Boundary Road.
Nothing remains except the Princess Alice (pub) building and St Columba.

Looking for that elusive branch!

As George said, Vaughan Street ran from Boundary Road, the other end was at Linthorpe Road. The area is now covered by the Hill Street shopping centre. Here is a link to the details of a pictorial history of Middlesbrough: http://www.communigate.co.uk/ne/bridgeender/page8.phtml
You may find the CommuniGate site interesting, it has people's memories of old Middlesbrough as well as a number of photos (unfortunately I can't find one of Vaughan Street or Boundary Road).

Many thanks for the information. Have had a quick look at the website. Seems very interesting. Will have a better look when I get time.
The names I am looking for in Middlesbrough are Misseldine, Ludford, Henderson, Johnson, Smith and Sarginson.
Herbert.

Don't know if anyone is still out there and interested in Southend School etc? I went to Southend School until it closed. I lived in a pub which my Dad ran just round the corner on Dale Street/Johnson Street - The Clarendon Hotel. I have got pictures of both the school and the pub.
The school was in the area between Boundry Road and Dale Street - and Vaughan Street and Bolckow Street a huge chunk of it is now taken up by Argos!
I would be really pleased to hear from anyone with an interest in the area.
