St Botolph was in the East London registration district.
East London Created 1st April 1838 (renaming of Bishopsgate district). Abolished 1st January 1870 (incorporated into London City district). In Middlesex. Sub-districts : Cripplegate; St. Botolph. GRO volumes : II (1838-51); 1c (1852-69). Glasshouse Yard, St. Botolph without Aldersgate, St. Botolph without Aldgate, St. Botolph without Bishopsgate, St. Giles without Cripplegate. Registers now in London City district.
I would not restrict myself to any particular district as they could have died elsewhere. For example if they died in hospital they could be registered in another district. You should look at all deaths in the East End of London. What was the persons name?

Hello there
many thanks for your reply...very informative...
Looking for death of great grandmother...born 1853 Agnes Evans..Lewes Sussex...Had grandmother Caroline Louise 1879 unmarried on b/cert.Know she lived or married Alfred William Trenter..found them on 1881/1891 Census but have never been able to find marriage or death of Agnes as Evans or Trenter..I know she died before 1901. 1891 address Aldgate...think they spent most of their adult life in East End...

Sorry I can't find them either. I even looked under Agness as one of mine was found with the SS at the end. You could also try Evan without the s. Thats how I found my Williams family. It's a puzzle isn't it.
You could put a request on the lookup section saying what you have looked for. Someone may take up the challenge. Was Alfred a widower in 1901?
Sorry I can't help. I'm sure they are there somewhere, probably under a different spelling or a different first name.

Might be worth getting that to see if it says if he is a widower or if it names his wife.
Now another tale about my family. One of my ancestors was in East London, born and married, until the 1881 census. I found her in Sheffield with her son. Then in 1891 her son turned up in Portsmouth and low and behold his mother died there aged 85. The moral of this tale is that people did travel around even at aged 80. So don't be strict of places.

Hi
Grandmother said her parents died when she was young and that they were from the East end. It seems strange that I cannot find a marriage....he was a widower before he met Agnes and he had children....he was not illiterate as he was a compositor so you would think that he would have married her...

Hello Harriet
If it says that on a death certificate it might not be true that she was born that year or that she was born in London. I see you have already been looking for this family.
Have you put out a request for an 1851 lookup. I looked at Bethnal Green but could not find her. 1851 is coming on line soon on Ancestry and I believe it is already available on The Genealogist site. You could also search 1837online. This is a record of all BMDs but it is a pay site and would not show the fathers name. You can, when you order a cert, say you only want the cert if the fathers name is correct. I'm afraid we all have certificates which are not right.
Best to try to find her in 1851.

JMG Don't rely on the fact you "think they got married", quite often they didn't for no apparent reason, one in my family never married her other half, she had been married but never found out what happened to him, she had at least 10 children with him then up and left him and finally whilst the poor man was in the work house married someone else. Also I have one who was a bigamist, she said her husband had died but he was still alive, so although we like to think everyone did the right thing, quite often they didn't, but don't give up

This may or may not be your request
Mary Ann Bowers born Dec qtr 1851 St Geo in East ref 2 124 This needs to be double checked if you are ordering this. I checked on Rootsweb Free BMD'S between 1851 and 1853 and only 1 showed for London
This may be her but father shown as George, the fact he was a wood carver I thought it was worth considering
