Hi

The 1861 census shows her birthplace as Knlliernuer, Invernesshire which is probably a transcription error and her age as 36.  Transcribed as Gillis.

13 Cables Wynd Midlothian

Archibald 32 Hammerman b Snizort, Invernesshire
Christina 36 b Knlliernuer
Norman  1 b South Leith

Hi

So you are saying that Christina was previously married?  If so - there is no way you will find her birth under Bruce as that was her previous married name.  What was her birth surname and are you sure you have the right Christina

1851 for Mains Angus

Alexander Bruce 46 b Snizort - linen yarn bleacher
Christina 30 wife b Strich
Alexander son 7 b Mains
Catherine McDonald 20 visitor b Snizort
Euphemia McDonald 25 visitor b Snizort

hi i think i have possible been going down the wrong avenue's  looking for Christina Bruce. The only known facts i have is that on the m.c of her son Alexander Bruce to Mary McDonald it states no father, but she was married to Archibald Gillies seaman deceased. From her M.c to Archibald Gillies in 1857 it states she was a spinster and her parents are Norman Bruce and Janet Bruce nee Munro but  i cannot find either of them thanks

Happy New Year

Christina Bruce/Gillies was my 2xG Grandmother. She was born in Snizort in Skye around 1820/25 and moved to Mains and Strathmartine to a bleaching works where she had her first son Alexander Bruce illegitimately I believe. Alexander was brought up by his Great Uncle Alexander Bruce and his wife Christina (Nee Mcpherson).

Christina Bruce/Gillies father was Norman Bruce as you say and his parents were Malcolm Bruce and Janet Martin from Snizort.

Happy to share information and link up.

Rob.

Hi Yvonne

Malcolm and Janet were married about 1788 according to the IGI. I have no dates for Norman and Janet unfortunately.

I am interested to find out how we relate to each other so will send my email as a PM.

Cheers Rob.
