wow thats brilliant
i wish i could do something like that
mine i just printed out the generational list  i had done filled in extra info about each person if i had found any not only census reports but other stuff like the war papers which had their descriptions, shipping lists, newspaper reports - i don't have photos of them and i bound it with a ring binder, i also lamenated the first page  but its nowhere near as good as yours .

Yes, you have to download a programme onto your computer, then you design the whole thing on your computer, you can add backgrounds, they have loads to choose from or put your own photos as backgrounds.

You can enter as much text as you like and i scanned in loads of documents, photos of medals etc, so even if you had not many photos you could still write and put in docvs etc.

when you have completed it you then just click order in the programme and it automatically sends it to the company, they then print it and bind it and post it to you - AMAZING!!!!!

I'd love to see any more examples when you have done some Grin

i did find it hard to organise but what i did was this:

i started with my  mums side, started on her mums dad and his parents, then his marriage and then their 3 children, one per double page, each with their spouse and children.  Then from one of them (my nan) it was a few pages on photos of her and children (my mum).

then i went to my dads family and did exactly the same process, and then brought them together by having photos of my parents and wedding etc, and then down to their children (me) from babies to present.

it worked quite well, and i had a family tree on the first page with the name of every person in the book so it could be related to who they were!!

Hi *Sara*

Thank you so much for posting this link for the photobooks.  I have been looking for something special to give my brother for his forthcoming 50th birthday and this just fits the bill.  Have started already and find the package very easy to use.

Thank you so much, Sara, for explaining how you did it, and Elaine for posting the link.  I haven't looked at the site yet but I'm definitely going to Cheesy.

There is something so pleasing about a book - to just being able to sit in comfort with it, turn the pages and read.  Can't wait to have a look - I am off there right now  Smiley  Smiley

Hi

Just to say I have just received my Photobook today  - ordered on Saturday. It was just a simple one with pictures and headings (not much text) - for my mothers 86th birthday.

As it was for my mother, I did her great grandparents/grandparents on her mothers side. Then her father and siblings, mother and siblings, and pictures of  her and her brother and sister, with pages for their weddings and children. I finished off with some group pictures. I am very pleased with it - and am trying to order a couple more copies, but am having a few problems with it!!

Will be using it for other booklets ( I belong to a group who celebrate their Silver Jubilee next year.!)

Regards

Might also want to try http://www.lulu.com

I bought a book through their site a few years ago, made by a friend. The quality is very good. The site allows people to self-publish their own books and sell them online through their site. However you can opt to keep your published book private so only you can see it.

I am so glad this topic was revived. I have been trying to figure out what to get my mom for Christmas. This might be the perfect present.

Thank you to Sara for this wonderful gift idea.  After seeing Sara's first post for this topic I went right to Jessop's site.  Unfortunately they are not set up to ship to Canada.  I did find a site on this side of the world (Heritage Makers).  I made a book for Dad for Christmas and it arrived in the mail yesterday.  I am so impressed by the quality.  My husband told me last night I will have the book worn out before I can give it to Dad, I can't stop looking at it.  Grin

I did download the software at Jessop's and it is very user friendly, this was before I thought to ask the question about shipping to Canada.  Heritage Makers is also extremely easy to use.
I'm off now to continue working on my next books - christmas gifts are easy this year!

Hi Brendam,

I'm in Canada too, the book that you did is it just like the one Sara did through Jessops?  I figured they wouldn't ship to Canada, but then I thought maybe I could have it sent to my friend in the UK, who would then ship it to me if worse came to worse.

Hi Karen,

The book looks to be the same as Sara's book.  It is hardcover with glossy finish and nice glossy pages inside.  I am going to send you a PM.
