FTM
« on: Saturday 20 June 09 15:59 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone,
2 problems really, (sorry)
been using FTM2006 on new laptop (vista) for 6 weeks, no problem till today.
Every time I start the programme, I get critical elements are missing, uninstall the programme & reinstall, data files have not been affected.
If I do this it works perfectly, backs up, everything, but when I restart next time it does the same thing.
My computer is clean (no virus) & I didn't make any changes before this happened.
Installed FTM2009 & imported my tree great, but it didn't import my media, which is about 1,000 images etc.
Surely I don't have to start from scratch, pleeeeze no.
Hoping someone out there can help,

have you d/l the update for 2006? because you are using vista it needs an update,
also images etc won't transfer from one version to another,
it will only transfer the tree data

What file did you import?

You should have imported the .ftw (native FTM format) file and not a .ged (GEDCOM) file in order to preserve the links to your images.

Downside
I uninstalled both versions then reinstalled & media files have copied over to FTM2009.
thanks a lot for that, it saved me weeks.
Problem solved
