OK, I'll admit it, I'm stumped. Can a kind soul take pity on me and help me batter down a particularly well-built brick wall?
On 31 July 1868 Ruth Martha GRIM was born in Bethnal Green Workhouse to Martha GRIM. Father's name blank.
In the 1861 census, Martha had been a servant in the house of Henry JONES and his family (RG09 Piece 3 Folio 80 Page 10) Henry's younger brother was George JONES who married Martha GRIM in 1871
In the 1871 census, Ruth (now called JONES) was living with her mother and father/stepfather? in Shoreditch (RG10 Piece 455 Folio 59 Page . Although, George and Martha didn't actually marry until the November of 1871. I have the certificate.
In the 1881 census, Ruth JONES was living with her 'uncle' Henry and his family in Hackney (RG11 Piece 281 Folio 54 Page 26)
From there, I lose her.
Now, GRIM is a very unusual name, but could she have married under the name JONES? I have researched as many of the possible marriages for Ruth Jones's as I can with no luck. Did a girl have to show her credentials to marry? Or would the vicar take her word for it? Would she have had to use the name she was born with? I can't imaginer her changing her name legally. The family were poor, poor, poor. Could she have been using her middle name (Martha?) If so, I have a possible sighting of her in 1891 where a woman born the same year is lodging at a house in Islington. (RG12 Piece 142 Folio 23 Page 43).
What else can I do to find her?
She also had two younger sisters, Eleanor born 1872 and Elizabeth born 1878. I can't find what happened to Eleanor after 1881 or Elizabeth after 1901. Luckily, not all my names are this popular!

Hi
My first thought was - where does she fit into your family tree?
Are you a direct descendant of hers? If so - you would know that she married and had children and also her married surname (unless she followed in her mum's footsteps!!)

Hi
If she married - it wasn't under Grim and there is no freebmd entry for a Ruth Martha Jones - although there are plenty for Ruth Jones!
I've checked Ancestors onboard and no emigration under Grim from 1890 onwards
If she followed the same path as her mum but never married ..............

Hello, unfortunately I'm not here to offer help but to rather ask a question. I'm trying to trace the Row family from Limehouse and Stepney and the Spurden's from Bethnal Green. Elizabeth Spurden, born 1865 was my great grandmother. We know her mum was called Sarah but do not have her maiden name. Just wondering if there's a connection here. I'm completely new at this so don't expect much from me...sorry. My mother-in-law has started putting our family tree together and we're stumped on Sarah's maiden name. We've traced the Row's as far back to William Row, born 1834, in Limehouse. Thanks. x

Hi Eggyhead,
Welcome to RootsChat
Maybe it would be an idea to start a new topic re Elizabeth Spurden - if you enter details -birth date , place of birth, who she married - and state her mother was Sarah (and father's name if you have it?) -and you are trying to find mother Sarah's maiden name.
State that you are new to family history
There are lots of rootschatters willing to help -and will assist in guiding you through your research
Look forward to meeting you on your new topic

Hello Tsu, thanks for your message. For some reason (maybe it's me or maybe it's because I'm new, most likely me) I'm not able to reply to your PM. I'd love to see your tree. Sounds like we're definitely connected, exciting.
Suzard, thanks also for the welcome.
