Hi Carole, I just received a copy of Benjamin Bowen and Margaret Matthews marriage certificate today. It is dated April 11, 1842, St. Mary's, Shrewsbury. Benjamin's father was a farmer, also Benjamin Bowen (that makes 3 Benjamins now) and Margaret's father was a labourer, Thomas Matthews. cassiar
Oh yeh - It shows Benjamin's residence at time of marriage as Berwick, and Margaret's as Upper Berwick, so that would have been him in 1841 as a male servant in Berwick, I'm sure.
When you get a chance, would you please check the 1871 census for me for the younger Benjamin Bowen (he would have been 20 yrs). He was born in Asterton, with his parents in Wistanstow in 1861, and in 1881 he was a male servant in Myndtown, but I don't know his whereabouts in 1871.
Thanks, cassiar

Hi, Does anyone have time to check the 1871 census for me for the whereabouts of Benjamin Bowen (approx. 20 yrs old) who was with his parents in 1861 and was a male servant in Myndtown in 1881. Thanks cassiar

Hello
There does not seem to be any sign of him on the English 1871 census.
On the Welsh 1871 census, at reference Forden RG10/5622 Folio 28 Page 9, there is a Benjamin Bowen shown as aged 18 from Wentnor, Shropshire who is a Farm Servant in the household of an Harriet Mapp at Shelfield, Worthen, Montgomeryshire. Wentnor is quite close to Asterton.
I cannot see a Benjamin Bowen born c1853 from Wentnor on the 1861 census, so I wonder if this might be your Benjamin in 1871 claiming to be a bit younger than he was ?
In 1881 his birth year also seems to be shown as c1853 and he is, again, a Farm Servant, but in Hope Bowdler. Myndtown, which is very close to both Asterton and Wentnor, is shown as his birth place.

Thanks posteria, I think it's very likely that this is the same person. I'll call this query completed now, and follow this thread on Wales site. Thanks for everything. cassiar
