John Welsh 1843 COMPLETED

Hi There,

My grt grt grandparents are a bit of a problem, so thank you for all the help that you have given me over the last few weeks. 

I have John Welsh born 1843 to Thomas Welsh and Ann Smith.  John married Jessie Reid and they lived in Arbuthnott.  Jessie died in 1894 in Arbuthnott.  I cannot find John after this.  I thought that I had him in the 1901 census in Forfar as a market gardener, but have not been able to follow this through.

Any thoughts and ideas would be gratefully received.  I have spent another £12 on trying to find his death certificate.

What was his occupation on earlier censuses and was he b Arbuthnott or elsewhere

HI there,

He was an Ag.Labourer and a farm servant.  Helived in Arbuthnott until Jessie died and then I dont know where he went....

Birthplaces are important when trying to find somebody on a census

I had to check the 1881 to find he was not b Kincardineshire but was b Brechin Forfarshire

I also had 1851 for his year of birth, but for some reason I also have 1843 as well....maybe picked up the wrong bit of paper.  He was born in Brechin.

If you were searching the 1901 with the wrong birthyear perhaps that's why you were unable to find him!

There is a 1901 entry for a John Welsh b 1854 Brechin - wife Elizabeth.  Could he have remarried between 1894-1901

I can't find the Welsh family in 1891 to compare children but I'm pretty certain it's him given the older childrens birthplaces

Elizabeth Welsh 39 St Cyrus Kincardine
James Welsh 14  b Kincardineshire Kineff
