Ann Newman from Blockley
« on: Saturday 18 October 08 23:34 UTC (UK) »

This will be like finding hens teeth!

Can anyone place a Newman family in Blockley around 1770 give or take 10 years.  I'm trying to find a family for my Ann bn c1781.  She married William Taylor in 1807 in Ebrington, Gloucestershire.

Hi
I haven't had a look for the Newman family  but I use this for my Blockley family and I've found a lot of information http://members.shaw.ca/panthers5/blockley.html
Sorry if you already have this info. Smiley

Blockley baptisms Feb 10th 1782
Ann Newman -parents Mathew and Lydia. Cheesy
I've had a quick look and you will probably find a few more family members on the site too.
Good luck.
Tina

added.... I have also found an Ann Newman daughter of Mathew and Lydia who died in 1780. It doesn't say how old she was and I can't seem to see a baptism for her. I have quite a few children in my tree who passed away and then the next child was given the deceased childs name.

Thanks Tinav

I'll take a look at the site you mention.  I think I've visited it once before when trying to find my Keyt relations.

I am looking at the Parish Records for Blockley in the site suggested by Tina, which is great, but I have a query that I would like some help with.

I have found an Ann Neman burial 20th May 1801.  It says "Female no other details."

On all the other such burials, it seems to be referring to an infant death.  Is it more likely for an adult death to have the age of the person stated??

Also I think the name is probably Newman, just hope it isn't my Ann otherwise I'm back to square one again. Huh

Well there were TWO Ann Newman's born in Blockley in that time period, bp1782, 10 Feb to Matthew and Elizabeth Newman and bp1784, 22 Feb born to Ralph and Elizabeth Newman, however no bp's for either Matthew or Ralph in St. Peter & St. Paul church. Could have been from another parish marrying a girl in Blockley and staying in Blockley. The Newman name does go back to 1594 in Blockley however.
