Wow, what a lot of work. Thank you!

I've worked through it all, and it's certainly fascinating to see how the surname "Arnold" comes in.

I wonder if Sarah Ann Smissen b 1847 was the daughter of Mary Smissen/Smithen then. I note that there is also an older brother, Richard. I had a look on FreeBMD, and there's a Richard Samuel Smissen born at Dover in the Jun 1844 quarter, which would fit in. Does this mean that Mary Ann had two children before marriage?

Perhaps the Hougham register could help; St Lawrence, I assume. I'm not close, sadly, but maybe can persuade someone to look.

What a fascinating trail this is.

Noycie: If you would like I have the Hougham Parish registers on permanent loan at my local LDS Family History Center. I can tell you that she was baptized on the 3 September 1826 item #238 page 30 Parents listed as Richard & Margaret Anne Palmer. His profession was given as a labourer and the ceremony performed by Thomas Morris. I hope this helps.
