A shot in the dark here, as I'm all out of ideas....
My 3x great-grandfather, Joseph Barlow was a Stone mason, born in Alton, Staffordshire. He's recorded in the 1841 Census in Alton with his 4 children - Eliza 15 (born out of county), James 15 (born out of county), Leah 12 (born Staffs), John 10 & Thomas 7. His wife was named Eliza and was born in 1800 (she had died in June 1836 in Alton aged 36 - details from burial register).
Eliza must have been in Alton in 1829 (as her daughter was born in the county, but must have been in another county in 1827 and before that....
So.... I'm looking for an Eliza somebody-or-other, born in 1799/1800 who married Joseph Barlow, a Staffs-born stone mason, sometime between say 1820-1825....
.... has anyone lost a young Cheshire lass who might fit the bill???
(warned you it was a bit of shot in the dark - thanks for reading this... any bright ideas gratefully received!!)

Yes, and no... I can't find Eliza, but her brother is living in Alton with step-mother and the younger children - but unhelpfully gives his birthplace as Alton in the 1851 (and all later Census material).

Hey thanks wozzle, I also found that one last night - but wasn't sure about it as Lichfield would still have given then an address in Staffs - unless they just married there and moved out of county ....
As for the sons... I'd always kind of assumed that Job and James were one and the same - more because of the proximity of ages (even taking into account the rounding in the 1841)...
I'm really grateful for this brainstorming you're giving this... I've stared at this one for so long, it's good to get someone else's lateral thoughts on it! Much appreciated
I'll check out Eliza Farneworth later - see if I can pick her up anywhere in later censuses..

Great sleuthing - thanks wozzle!
I'll take a good look at these Farnsworths later, but they're certainly looking likely. It still leaves the mystery of why their early children were born out of county... and which county that might be. Longdon is pretty much slap-bang in the middle of staffs - I maybe need to look into what might have taken Joseph Barlow out to Lichfield in the first place, I know he was a Mason (and must have been a pretty good one as he worked for the Earl of Shrewsbury on his rebuilding work at Alton Towers in the early 1800's) - maybe I should be looking for where else the Earl might have been building at the time...
Many thanks again for your thoughts and look-ups
