McCutcheon / Le Count
« on: Tuesday 21 October 08 12:44 UTC (UK) »

I wonder if anyone can help with the following. I'm trying to ID parents of Jane McCutcheon b. abt. 1830 in Antrim, but had (at least) one child born in Birr, County Offaly: John Henry Le Count in 1865.  I do not yet know whether her family is from the Birr area or they moved there from Antrim after her marriage (abt. 1850 as dau. Mary Jane born then in "Ireland" according to census).  Husband John Henry was from the Isle fo Wight and they moved back there by 1871.

Any help or advice gratefully appreciated

Have just posted a reply regarding the marriage of Jane McCutcheon.
If there's a marriage certificate then it should list the names and occupations of both fathers (although sometimes just 'deceased' is put in space for father's name and if illegitimate the box will probably be left blank) as well as residences of the bride and groom at time of marriage (which may or may not be where they were born or where their families were living).
Until you get the marriage there's probably not much point searching in Antrim, etc.

Thanks - could you advise how best to get hold of the marriage cert.  If I assume they married around 1850 / just before somewhere in Ireland he "Le Count" and she "McCutcheon" (incl. variants) is there a way to search for a record of it online? If not, how should I go about it?  Thanks
