Hi All and Peter and Debs
I have finally found a moment to let you all know I am still popping in to read the posts every now and then, but am just so busy at the moment.
I have no time for family research.
It is good to hear everyone is getting on nicely and making progress.
I was a little surprised about Henry Hedges having such a bad reputation. I only knew of him because my Nan Ena HEDGES mentioned him being on the Hoadley wedding photo. I was never told anything about the Chatham branch of the family. Except that Samsons parents lived there and that his mother used to sit on the front doorstep and smoked a clay pipe.

hi jenny,
didn't mean to upset you about Henry, my great grandfather, but l am afraid he did have a bad reputation. In fact it would be nice to hear something good about him.  Undecided
Don't know about the Hoadley family. It looks as if we have some of the same ancesters. its great to be able to check receords.

l too know what busy is and my time has been restricted considerably in the last few months. Just getting back into it.

By the way loved the photos. l didn' have any until l joined this site. Brilliant. Good luck to you all

The Henry Hedges I know, was born in 1892, his father was also Henry Hedges a labourer. Henry
married Margaret Boswell in 1914. Her father was Jonh Boswell a horse dealer. They lived at
9 Regents Court, New Road, Chatham, Kent. I believe there is another  Henry Hedges family.

Hello Joyce
Have I found yet another relative on the Hedges side of the family. The address 9 Regents Court was the address that my nan Eliza Hedges gave when she married my grandfather Tommy Hughes in 1914. I haven't managed to find Regents Court. I think that it was somewhere near the New Road in Chatham. I am always after photographs. Do you have any of the Hedges family?
Best Regards
Peter

In reply to your message, yes I do have a photo, but I'm not sure how to send it. I will send as soon
as I get someone to help me. Other address's that they lived in, were,Best street,Russel square,
Hoopers road Rochester, and Princess street, Rochester. Grandad (Henry Hedges) also used the name Carter-Hedges. My uncle, William Hedges now lives in Gillingham.

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has any information on Henry Hedges, born 1891, father also Henry, mother was
Rose Ann Carter, parents weren't married at the time. Henry born 1891, married Margaret Boswell on
24 August 1914. I'm unable to trace anything on Margaret, except that she was born about 1892,
and died 11 August 1935. Henry and Margaret had many children, some didn't survive, but the others
were, William Rose, Ellen, Margaret, Joyce and George.
Thanks, Joyce

Hi Joyce,
your grandfather was my Nan's brother. l heard he was a very nice man. My mum Mary lived opposite Henry and Noony (Margaret Boswell) in Best St. Chatham. They all went away fruit picking to Iwade, where the farmer took my mum and Ivy to the little village school. they travelled with his own two children like stunt riders on his motorbike mum tells me. It was while they were away that Noony went into labour. She walked all the way back to Chatham on her own to Best st. when the others realized she had gone they returned to find her in a very bad way. Unfortunately she died soon after they returned. my mum was about ten at the time and remembers the funeral vividly.

l have quite a few stories that mum used to tell me when l was a little girl. She,s a brilliant story teller and l was fascinated. l have related a lot of them in my autobiography that l am working on.

Unfortunately l have no photos other than the ones Peter kindly let me have. l would be pleased however, if you have any l can share. if you would like any more information that maybe l can help with, don't hesitate to ask.

best wishes

hi joyce,
they are brilliant. thanks. Nell hasn't changed a bit. Although l had never seen a picture of Henry when he was young, you can tell he is family just by looking at him. My nan was Rose Ann Hedges. Everyone knew her though as Annie Giddins. Aunt Annie. Just noticed your name is Campbell. Not related to the Campbells in Chatham? My nans best friend was Kate Campbell. l was brought up in Chatham but moved to Suffolk in later life.
Best wishes

Hi Tricia,
I remember a George Giddings,I know he used to go and help my uncle George on his smallholding in Upchurch, picking cherries. I'm not sure if Iv'e spelt his name right. My mother was Margaret Mary Ann. I was married to Stanley Campbell, he used to live in Great South Avenue. Date of his birth was
11-03-1941, we parted in 1982, and he died in1998.

Hi all, i found this thread in connection to the Boswell search but only got part way through...too big a read....but a giant wow and hats off to you, Deb for all that searching and to all the others who helped...
Look at all the family ties found and united!
Did you ever make the connection, then? Undecided Can't justify that long a read to see if William & Susanna were the right
parents, etc...

and here's something I found with a few more Hedges/ because you simply haven't enough...( also Cumbers, eastwoods, etc)

Hi everyone
Sorry to barge in midway through the thread but it appears I am also related to this line of the Hedges family.  Rose Ann Carter 1873 who married Henry Hedges 1869 are my great great grandparents.  My nan is one of the daughters of Rose Ann Hedges and William Giddins.  I recognise (I think) some of the people on here despite their user names from another site.  Its great to get further information and find out how far the family tree extends.  My nan's decendents live in the North west now and have for many years.  It would be great to hear tales from long ago.
