Hargrave, William & Elizabeth (Ardee)
« on: Wednesday 02 February 05 05:47 UTC (UK) »

I am new to this group and am hoping that some kind souls can help me out. I'm researching my ancestors William and Margaret Hargrave (Smith). They are listed on the 1822  1824 Freeholders list for Ardee (Lord Balfour). I believe they emigrated to Australia in 1843 with eight children.I believe they belonged to the Church of Ireland. I am hoping to find out some information about the following: Their dates of birth & marriage. Names and dates of birth of children. I am also keen to contact others who may be researching other branches of this family.
Thank You

Hello

I think I might be descended from your William Hargrave relatives.  I am Australian but currently living in London.  My surname is Nielsen, but my mother's maiden name was Hargrave.  Her father was Philip Hargrave, who lived in Yarrawonga, Victoria.  He was a solicitor.  I am not entirely sure of all the Hargraves earlier than him but my Mum goes on and on about the family coming from Ireland and there being some sort of "ancestral home" she calls it.  William was (I think) called William Wallace Hargrave?  BEcause I have heard mention of 'Uncle Wal' who was in a younger generation and was named Wallace after that original man.

If you think this sounds like your rellies, let me know and I can give you some further info from my Auntie Margot.  She was born a Hargrave (my Mum's sister) and has the best idea about hte family history.

My email address is (*)

How exciting if it is one and the same!  Kind regards, Sarah
