Hello
I am trying to find the 1841 Census for Jane Barnes. I have found her on the 1851 Census listed as head of household living in Hinckley Leicestershire with her children, including William and his wife Eliza. Her place of birth is listed as Leicester and her age looks to be either 61 or 64 (1787-1790).
However, i cannot find her on the 1841 Census and so am not sure who her husband was (if he was alive then!)
Can anybody help me please?
Thanks in advance
TB

No
I have not found William Barnes in 1841 either, he was apparently born in Hinckley around 1820 although i have not found any further info on his birth or of a marriage to Eliza. Eliza is listed as being born in Nottingham, so perhaps the family lived around there for a while.
Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks for all of your research. This looks promising. The only discussion points are that Eliza appears to be a good 10 years older than she is listed in the 1851-1871 Census' (unless he married another Eliza between 1841 and 1851?) and William is listed as being born in the County of Nottingham, whereas he is listed as being born in Hinckley on the 1851-1881 Census.
Still the best fit though.

Just looked again - Jane and William Barnes appear on the 1851 and 1861 Census' from Colston Bassett census (1851 - Class: HO107; Piece: 2139; Folio: 349; Page: 13 and 1861 - RG9; Piece: 2485; Folio: 39; Page: 9) and so this unfortunately cannot be the right Jane as i already have her on the 1851 Census in Hinckley as a widow!
Looks like we will have to keep looking.

There is definetly a Barnes - Holt family tie as the 1851 Census for Hinckley would indicate:
1851 Census - Hinckley - Leicestershire UK
Thomas Holt 24 head Stocking Maker Cotton Elizabeth Holt 17 wife Seamer John Holt 4 months son Frances Holt 17 sister Seamer Mary Barnes 68 Aunt Seamer Pauper Sarah Arnold 34 cousin Seamer
Thomas & Frances Holt are the children of Thomas and Elizabeth Holt - sometimes spelt as Hoult by researchers

Have now found the right 1841 Census - i think!
Jane's husband was Josiah Barnes. Josiah was from Ansley Warickshire and Jane was from Leicester. Josiah married Jane in St Margaret's, Leicester in 1818. Children incl William, Jane, Josiah and Elizabeth.
Josiah died between 1841-1851. Not sure when as there are several deaths on freeBMD for a Josiah Barnes in Hinckley during that time - one of the others is probably his son.
Jane then went on to live with her son William and his wife Eliza in Hinckley in 1851 before dying on 11/12/1859.
I can't find an appropriate christening for Jane Brooks, which would have taken place around 1787, probably in Leicester.
Regards
