Updating/editing a previous post.

Hi,

Is it possible to update a previous post ,to add more information etc, or is it best to somehow delete the old post and write a new one?

Not sure how to go about it.

Hi Barbara

Best to keep all the information in one place, otherwise the "old" thread is wrong/ inaccurate and people might duplicate work on the "new" thead.

You can just Reply * to your old thread with the new info.

Or you can Modify * the original, if it was posted quite recently - it's a good idea to add a comment to this effect though, or people start thinking they were seeing things previously!  Grin

People on this site are so kind & helpful that the last thing I want to do is duplicate requests or cause confusion, which is why I thought I'd better seek advice.

May I  presume upon you for some advise again please?

I have had a lot of help from various rootschat members since I joined in August. 3 people in particular were very good and instrumental in helping me.
Is there a way of posting a Thank-you on the board to these people?

Hi Arranroots,

I'm back for more advice please with regard to making additions to a previous post.

I have today made additions to a request I originally posted on 15 Oct 08 (Grave Lookup, Hythe , Kent) by using the modification button as you advised me earlier.

How does the system work ? what will bring my old message to the attention of rootschat members again to show the new information I have added.

Hope you don't mind me asking, I'm still learning the ways of Rootschat.

You raise a good point Barbara - the answer is no!  Unless you Reply to a post, those who have contributed to it won't get a notification.

We don't allow "bumping" of threads without good reason but if you add a reply at the bottom to say that you have altered your original post, I shouldn't think Casalguidi will mind too much!

Sometimes it's a good idea to highlight the new details in some way (bold,  different colour, strikethough for old info., etc.) to let people see what chances you've made.

Hi Barbara

If you have already edited in new info by using the Modify button, just go to the bottom and Reply saying "new info added above" or something similar.

As Aghadowey says, if you have used Bold or another colour the new info will stand out.
