HELP required with Hogan and Daly family
« on: Tuesday 28 October 08 16:43 UTC (UK) »

Hello All

I am a novice on tracing my Irish ancestors so any help would be really appreciated. Smiley

My grandfather was Simon Hogan who  married Ellen Daly at St Murins, Carrick St Begg on 28 August between 1912 to 1922.  Ellen's family came from Church Town her mother was called Margaret and father Geoffrey (not sure of spelling).

They lived in Glenn Upper near Kilsheenan.  Simon died about 1949.

How do I find out any information about them and their ancestors?

thanks

Like all research it's really a matter of checking records step by step.

The marriage of Simon and Ellen should list the names and occupations of both fathers as well as the residences of bride and groom at the time of the marriage.
The 1911 census records may show Simon and Ellen in their parents' households so that you will then have a rough idea of birthdates and names and ages of some siblings. In 1911 census married woman how many years married and number of children/how many children living.
The 1901 census is also available and if you can trace the families on it you might get more information.

Where or how can I get access to the census. Are they available online?

1911 and then 1911 census will eventually be online through National Archives, Dublin but in the meantime someone else might know if the records are available online (free, pay per view or subscription). The LDS also have microfilm copies of the census records. See www.familysearch.org to check their catalogue. For a small fee you can order them from your local LDS library to be viewed there.
