Hi,
Welcome to Rootschat!
I'm afraid I don't know anything about your Stuart Family but did you know the main Cemetery between Grangemouth and Polmont is called Grandsable Cemetery?
As you enter the cemetery, there is a largish house just inside the gates. How old this building is, I don't know, but even if it doesn't date back far enough to the 'the' Grandsable House', it may well be a newer building on the same site? The Cemetery was established roughly towards the end of the 1880's so might have been part of Grandsable House's land?
On the 1881 Census, there is only one match:
Dwelling: Grandsable Census Place: Polmont, Stirlingshire
Head: John McKinlay, Occupation: Book-keeper *Colly??, age 69, born at Douglas, Lanarkshire Wife: Mary Murray McKinlay, age 68, born Muirkirk, Aryshire Son: Duncan Mc K. McKinlay, Occupation: Artist (Figure Painter), age 24, born Muirkirk, Ayrshire. (Unmarried) Servant: Catherine SWAN, Occupation: General Servant, age 14, born Falkirk, Stirlingshire.
*Colly might be an abbreviation for Colliery?
You could try contacting Falkirk Archives: http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/community/cultural_services/museums/archives/archive.aspx
Good Luck,
Anne

Why don't you put up a new post on the Durham Board here on RootsChat www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,12.0.html - maybe someone with knowledge of the area and county may have access to other sources or be able to point you in a new direction
Always worthwhile putting a link to this post so that people don't repeat what you already have.

As mentioned in a previous post, this is the house within Grandsable Cemetery grounds. I don't think t's actually got anything to do with the cemetery and will be privately owned.
It doesn't have a 'name' that I could see.

I see that the dreaded Rootsweb http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=Search&includedb=&lang=en&ti=&surname=Stuart&stype=Exact&given=Stonehouse&bplace=&byear=&brange=0&dplace=&dyear=&drange=0&mplace=&myear=&mrange=0&father=&mother=&spouse=&skipdb=&period=All&submit.x=Search
has a marriage - same as indicated by Monica, there are 11 entries (if you search for Stonehouse Stewart - you'll come up with another entry on the site - indicates same wife but has no children)- one includes this:
"Monumental Inscription Harwich In the memory of Stonehouse Stuart who departed this life on the 2nd December 1853 in the 98th year of his life and Elizabeth his wife who departed this life on 30th November 1843 aged 75 years"
Also, a search of Google Books brings up the following snippet:
The Smugglers' Century: The Story of Smuggling on the Essex Coast, 1730-1830 - Page 67 by Hervey Benham, Essex Record Office - Smuggling - 212 pages
Five years earlier Capt Smith of the Leopard, also of Harwich, gave his reason for employing a local branch pilot, Stonehouse Stewart, at 6s a day. ..."
That's all my input I'm afraid. Good luck with your searching. Regards, Steve :O)
Off to bed with a wife and a good book - or should that be a good wife and a book I think :O) :O)........

Are you able to say what this archive actually is and what the names of the districts mean....would it mean that if this marriage is listed there it took place in Suffolk? thanks for your help ssIII

I don't know is the honest answer.
The information which included the marriage details came from the RootsWeb link I posted. Reading it as it stands, it seems the lady who posted has actually looked the film she referenced and she posted the details contained therein.
Given it was posted on the ENG-SUFFOLK-SAMFORD-DISTRICT-L Archives, you would think it was relevant to the area. As you are doing, always worthwhile double checking though. What information makes you think the marriage may have taken place in London?
