1841 Census _ Lost Fairys!
« on: Thursday 30 October 08 09:09 UTC (UK) »

Kia Ora
I wonder if anyone could find
Jane Fairy bap 1821 Con(n)ington hunts and/or her sister Mary Ann Fairy bap 1823 also at Connington please.

Spelling maybe Farey, Fairey or Fairy.

I imagine both were in Domestic Service  and probably not too far away as they seemed to return for family events and both were married in Connington.

Very grateful for any help!

Hi Marlene,      I've looked but cannot find them, they've disappeared.

I cannot even find the rest of the family. I am taking it that these are daughters of William Fairy of Riseley & Ann (ne Samms) who I do find on 1851 with sons Joseph & George. Have you found these on 1841, as well as their other children John, William, Sarah, & Betsy ?

Just to confuse me more 1841 on Ancestry has it as parish of CoVington !

All the best regards John

Thanks for looking John! I wanted to make sure my eyesight wasn't getting worse!

Yes I have all the other censii  for every one else up to their deaths - they were a very responsible family it seems.

Which makes it so much more mysterious that Jane & Mary Ann disappear and I can only assume they were "in service" somewhere and  either Boss didn't know their names or they are badly mistranscribed!

Parents William & Ann were in Connington in 1841.  (From memory (??) William was at the bottom of a page and the rest followed on the next page. )

There was a Joseph & Ann with brood at COVINGTON which had me confused for a while but MY Joseph and Ann went to Yelden!

In 1851 Mary Ann had married Robert Swinton and was in Wistow and Jane was at the home of Earl Manvers  and his Countess I think in Nottinghamshire.
Cheers
Marlene

Hi Marlene,
Not a reply to your query, but I was wondering about a Peter Fairy of Bythorn c1730.
Would you have any info on him??
I see he married Grace Yorke in Bythorn on 21 Nov 1749.
Then I find a marriage for Grace Feary & Thomas WHITMAN in 1757 Bythorn.
Possibly Peter dies & Grace remarries?
You are the Fairy expert, so I thought I would ask you.
Thanks, Carole

Kia ora Carol!
I wish! I had a load of information but in Julymy computer was hit by a power surge and blew out the Motherboard!

SOME of it is retrievable but I have fiddle around so give me few days and I'll get back to you!

In the meantime I think your scenario of a remarriage is highly likely, but I cannot see an extracted entry on the IGI.

I'd suggest you ask for a look up on the BVRI or the Hunts Marriage Index  to see if Grace was a widow in 1757.
Regards

Thanks Marlene,
I have the BVRI CD set & that is where it came from.
Everyone can now search these records at:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?datestamp=1204128722687#p=0

I was just interested if you had more info.
The BVRI did not say wife had previously married as I remember it.
I will have to double check that.
Sorry about your computer problems, same thing happened to me
last Aug!! Even tho I had it on two different surge protectors!
Thanks for your efforts,
Carole

Peter Feary was buried at Bythorn on 17 Nov 1753.

The 1757 marriage doesn't say that Grace was a widow, but it wouldn't be the first time that this detail has been missed from the parish register

Kia Ora Beds Boy! Long time no hear!
Hope all is well with you & yours!
Thanks for clearing up Peter's death and I agree being a widow might have been (conveniently) missed!
Cheers
