Beam Craneman, Mary Webster
« on: Thursday 30 October 08 13:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi

On my Father in laws side his grandmother was a Mary Jane Webster who married a Archibald Notman in 1905 Edinburgh.

Mary's parents were John Webster, Beam Craneman and Barbara Webster MS Chalmers on the certificate.

Why is this, I have racked my brain can anyone help.

Also on Mary's birth certificate it states the parents are John Webster, Carter and Barbara Webster, MS Chalmers.

They had Archibald, Barbara, Mary, Margaret and John, however I can not find any details of Margaret and John, I believe that Margaret was known as Meg.

Thank you

Susie

Hi Susie. The ScotlandsPeople index of marriages shows that John Webster and Barbara Chalmers were married in 1877 at Fordoun, Kincardineshire.  If you already have this, apologies.

Thats great, I was just confused who this Beam Craneman and Carter was on the certificate, it doesn't make sense.
Unless John Webster died and she remarried.

Thanks

Both beam craneman and carter would have been John's occupations at the two dates. See http://www.scotsfamily.com/occupations.htm for a full list of old Scottish occupations. Smiley
