Hi, anyone got any info on the Nicholson family who lived in the village near Marsden Rock. The parents were Joseph and Jane Nicholson (nee Moore?). Jane died in 1932 having had 13 children so I'm guessing she was born in about 1890ish. Joseph died in 1967 having moved to Surrey sometime after the death of Jane. Their children included my dad Kenneth(1924) Ella Verden, Cecilia Jane, Edwina, Lithard Certese, Raymond, their births range from approx 1910 onwards. Family history says that Joseph was a black sheep from a well off family who left home to become a miner in true Catherine Cookson style. Many thanks Claire

Nicholson in Durham, Geal in Kent and Mitchell in Hastings
Hello, I'm not sure myself really to be honest. I guess it would be interesting to find if my Grandad really was from a well off family and what they were like. Trouble is there are a million and one Joseph Nicholsons in Durham, (and I'm not even certain he was Durham born and bred) and his last remaining daughter tells me that she's not interested in the past...end of conversation. I just thought I'd see if anyone here knew anything while I was trying to find out about the Sussex fishermen on the otherside of my family tree.

My wifes grandmother was a Nicholson and they lived in the old village of Marsden Colliery, (now in the sea!!). It was where the car park for Souter Point light house now stands. Her name was Mary Nicholson and she was the daughter of Matthew Nicholson one of 10 children.
The names you mention don't ring any bells but she is going to ask her mother (aged 82) who may know something.
The Nicholson family in Marsden originated from Renwick in Cumberland.
