James Aitken & Janet Aird in Irvine after 1841
« on: Saturday 01 November 08 01:37 UTC (UK) »

Hello there

I wonder if someone could help me please.  I have a little bit of a mystery here.

I am trying to find remarriages , deaths, graves for either, or both, of these two people please.  Last seen in 1841 census, living in Kirkgate, Irvine.  They were husband and wife.

James Aitken born around 1805

Janet Aird born 1808.

Can find no trace of either of them in the 1851 census, and the family seems to be broken up.  I can also find no record of either of them remarrying after 1841. I think that they  may have died.

Thank you very much.
Janice

I am descended from them through their son James. It looks like they both died before 1851. I can find no record either. Like you I can find their children scattered in the 1851 census

HI Martin

Its nice to hear from you.    I followed James' family up to 1901.  If I am right, he was a joiner and lived in Copeland Road in Govan.  From your ID, I think you may still be in that area.

I am descended from Eleanora. I was quite amused to see that she managed to be on the 1841 census twice.  She must have been counted in her own house and then in her aunt's, whether she did it on purpose through mischieviousness, we will never know.

Have you managed to figure out where the Aird side of the family came from? I am a bit confused about that as well.  In 1851, one of the children, John was with Mgt Aird, an aunt, in Campbeltown.  Matthew and Lawrence were with Aunt Ellan in Irvine, born 1788 in Portpatrick, Wigton.

Let me know what you have found out and we can compare.
