Gavins in Ballymore Eustace
« on: Saturday 01 November 08 07:43 UTC (UK) »

hi all

I'm wondering if anyone might know any history about a Gavin family who reportedly lived in Ballymore Eustace in the mid-19th century. My ancestor, Denis Gavin, came from there (via Dublin) and when he arrived in Australia in 1855 he said his parents were Denis and Mary Gavin: his father was already deceased but mother was living in Kildare. later information he gives on certificates states his place of origin as Ballymore, so presumably Ballymore Eustace.

When we visited Ireland we tried to find out more by visiting the church and churchyard and checking the National Library parish records to no avail.

I did find a Denis Gavin who died in 1852 but his estate says that he was a bachelor with only a surviving sister. I am assuming that this is the same chap who is on the griffith Valuations at Broadleas Common. There is no other Gavin showing in Ballymore so I am stumped as to further ideas.

Can anyone offer any further clues??

Thanks

Pauleen
