William married Elizabeth Jones (I think) in Sep Q 1839 and died Sept Q 1896, both in or near Biggleswade, where he seems to have spent most, if not all of his life. He would appear to have been born in Henlow in 1812. I can see him in the census indexes for 1851 through to 1891 (1881 widower with James Bywater & family - maybe with his daughter?), but I have no details of his family.
Can someone please provide confirmation of these details via census records, also if possible his birth & parents for me, please? I am trying to find a connection with my relative, William Church b 1808, who died in Biggleswade in 1880.

This is really helpful. Thanks very much. I can see you are on a roll here, so please don't let me stop you!
Workhouse Row and these elderly paupers don't sound too good.

Yes Elizabeth's age & pob are rather variable. I looked for a second marriage to another Elizabeth, but couldn't find one. There is a likely death for Elizabeth in Sep Q 1875 in Biggleswade age 67, which would make her birth year c1808.
Just seen your last two postings. Thank you so much for this. I haven't found the connection yet that I'm looking for, but then I seem to have two (or three, actually) totally unconnected Church families. From one of these two daughters married two Fairey brothers, whilst a third Fairey lad married a girl from yet another Church family.
Regards

Hi Gill
As a Henlow born lad I couldn't resist chipping in!
Henlow transcript has William Church son of John and Elizabeth baptised on 19 Jan 1812. No other details.
I have transcripts, pre 1812, for most of the parishes around here. Let me know if you need anything

Bonsoir, David
This is not "my" William Church, my gt-gt-grandfather born 1808 in Woolwich, died 1880 in Biggleswade (I now have his baptism record courtesy of yet another helpful person, by the way), as I'm sure you have realised. I was just curious and wondered if these various Church families could be related.
The only things I know about Henlow are Henlow Grange, RAF Henlow..... and now your birthplace!
Thank you for the baptism record. I'll reflect on the information here and get back to you if I need any more from your transcripts.
Regards
Gill

Hi Gill
I hadn't realised that you'd finally tracked down William's Woolwich baptism. Was it found at LMA? Great news!
Church was a pretty common name so any connection to your William may be unlikely
Daughter and family are over for the weekend and I'm being taken out for a belated birthday meal tonight, so I'd better change into something more befitting a decent restaurant!
All the best
David

Hi David
Hope you enjoyed your meal and belated happy birthday wishes to you.
Just in the last few days I have heard from someone who goes up to LMA from time to time and has finally tracked down my William's baptism, and it appears that the vicar or parish clerk was one of those helpful ones who actually records the date of birth as well as the baptism. I am just waiting for the hard copy of the register entry to arrive before tying up the loose ends on my earlier string about William Church (& Mary Ambridge), as I have so far only received email confirmation of the dates. I'm delighted, as the Woolwich birth was something of an enigma!
You're right, there are rather a lot of Church families in Hunts & Beds.
Best regards
Gill
