Am looking for any information on my grandmother. Her name was Helen Bruce or Forbes and she was a domestic servant at Mains of Kair Fordoun in 1933. On my fathers birth certificate she was described as 'Helen Bruce (formerly Forbes), Domestic Servant, (domicil Mains of Kair, Fordoun)', a description I find rather unusual, but can anyone help? My father was born 06/11/33. His birth certificate states he was born at Woodend Hospital Aberdeen which seems strange if my grandmother was living in Fordoun at the time. Thanks Denise

Have you got an age for Helen BRUCE? Do you know where and when she died and was she still Helen Bruce? I ask as this will let us know if she is likely to appear on any censuses. trees

What happened to your father? Was he cared for by arelation or brought up in care? Did he stay in Aberdeen. I wonder if the school admissions book had any further details that could help. Trees

My fathere was brought up by a relative and he has lived in Aberdeen since. I never thought about the schools admission books. Do you know if it is possible to see these? Denise

Not sure about the date you want I know my aunt was able to look at the admission books for the Cottage homes and school for my Grandfather but that was quite a bit earlier, She had to be the next of kin. I think Scottish rules may be different. Your problem may be that he was living with a relative as guardian their details would have been used rather than the parents. Do you have any details of the relative you may find them on a census and that could give a clue. Trees

it would be an idea to post on the Scotland boards they will know the Sottish rules re who can look at different records and if the parents names would be on the registers etc Did he put a parent's name on his marriage certificate? Did he do military service maybe his parents were mentioned on enlistment papers Trees

I have the details of the relative that brought up my father. Not sure if the 1901 census is available to look at yet, but will definately find out about this. Dont think that tracing my grandmother will be easy, but willing to give it my best shot. Denise

the 1901 census is available ask on the Scottland board and I am sure some one will look it up if you give the name of the relative. Was a father's name given on the birth certificate? Trees
