Yes! This does tie the Henrietta Ward witness to the Black family. This excellent information has reminded me that the witnesses usually represented both sides of the family and usually the witness for each is under the name he or she represents. On this 1852 marriage record Henrietta Ward is recorded under James Black's name while Hugh Colgan is recorded under Sarah Colgan's name, adding to the evidence that Ward is connected to the Blacks. This additional information that you have so kindly provided has some very enticing clues for me to follow!! I too would like to know the year of this June 25th Williams/Ward marriage.

Did any part of the 1831 County Antrim census survive? I'm interested in a John Speer who is shown in the 1831 census index in the Ballyrashane Parish. Because he might be my 3rd grt grandfather and because there is a connection to the Colgans of Ardihannon I'm posting this here. Thank you.

Only Co Londonderry 1831 census materials survive, so it must have been the part of Ballyrashane Parish that is in that county (it crosses the county boundary). 1831 was not a complete named census - only the head of household and number of residents (split between male/female and religion plus how many were servants) are listed.

There are some Speers on the 1803 North Antrim Ag. Census,
most seem to be around Ballymoney but there is a Robert at Tullycapple, Dunluce 
Scroll down and put Speer in the search box

This is regarding the posting on this board of a Charles Williams, Georgina Gould Ward 1861 marriage in Ballywillin Parish(Portrush), Georgina being the granddaughter of a Thomas Black. Could this Charles Williams be the 19th century war correspondent who was from Coleraine but also lived in London as a well known journalist. (1838-1904) The marriage article does state that he was from Coleraine and London and his age seems right for an 1861 marriage. Can anyone direct me to a biography or more information about him because I'd like to know if his wife was Georgina Ward. I'm trying to connect a Ward family to my Black family of County Antrim. These Blacks(James Black & Sarah Colgan) were married in Coleraine(1852) with a Ward as a witness. It appears that the Ward witness represented the groom, James Black.
