Matilda1973 Scavenger Hunt.....Everyone Welcome To Join In.
« on: Tuesday 04 November 08 13:18 UTC (UK) »

Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt and this is a really interesting one........I'm sure you'll find it to be a real challenge.......but interesting.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Barbara

                                 **********************************

On  8th jan 1913 at Thye reg office Cheltenham  Nellie Davis  (father James Davis genral hawker) married Nipton Hurn genral dealer (father John Hurn farm labourer) they were both single, the witnesses were Isaac Hurn and Lily Hurn. my m in l has a photo of Nipton and his sister Lily May writen on the back it says that there name was Royals. The family story is that they changed their name due to a family fall out..

I have what I'm sure is the family in the 1901 census  RG13; Piece: 2469; Folio: 26; Page: 8.
      Adolphus Ryals 19
      Caleb Ryals 14
       Isaac Ryals 7
        John Ryals 44
       Lily May Ryals 5
       Tipton Ryals 16  (nipton)
       Yryfinia Ryals 45

and again in 1891  RG12; Piece: 2041; Folio 104; Page 21

    Ada Riles 14
   Caleb Riles 4
    Halford Riles 10
    John Riles 36
    Nephine Riles 6   (Nipton)
    Sciante Riles 38

I've never found a birth marriage or death for any of the family apart from Niptons marriage and death.   There is a possiblity that the mothers  maiden name was Hurn/ Hearne and this is why they took this name.  if so Scanti/Tryinia may be  Triente Hurn/Hearne who "married" John Ryalls/Riles/Royals, daughter of Edmund and Jemima Hurn/ Hearn.  this is them in 1871   RG10; Piece: 2607; Folio: 28; Page: 12

     Brinte Herne 18  (Triente)
    Edmund Herne 50
    Elizabeth Herne 21
    Jennina Herne 55
    Mary M Herne 12
   Urania Herne 16  (lurena)
   Alice Smith 35
   Madonna Smith 16
   Stephen Smith 11
Trientes sister Lurena was said to of "married " Walter Ryalls/Riles/Royals brother to John.

I hope all this makes sense. Would love to find out anything on the other siblings or parents of Nipton  and what happened to them all or some "proof" that it is all the same family. thanks in advance for any help you can give me

There is a Caleb Charles Byles bn June qtr 1888 Cheltenham (would cover Staverton) 6a 416.  I wonder if a heavy accent could change Riles to Byles?

I wonder if Sciante and Tryphenia are the same person ... I thought that the 1901 POB looked like Northamptonshire (tryphenia) and the 1891 looked like Lincs for Sciante.
Also there is a 7 year gap between Caleb 14 and Isaac 7 on the 1901 census .
