Hello,
I have a copy of the Lichfield Gazette with pictures of the following shops in it:
Susan's Baby Wear (1968 - 1988)
Walsall and District Co-Operative Society Ltd Branch No 13 (1914 - 1988)
Jim Ashley Greengrocer (1952 - 1995)
Mullarkey's (1939 - 1983)
Victoria Wine (1967 - 1979)
Simon and Parker Ironmongers (1932 - 1978)
There is also a brief note stating the previous history of each shop back into the 1800s. If anyone thinks this is relevant to their ancestry, please let me know via PM. 
Also, for anyone with Lichfield ancestry there is the gazette website at www.lichfieldgazette.co.uk and the October issue is currently online with some old city photographs.

Sorry to mislead - I think that the dates refer to the position of the shop and not the time frame the shop itself existed.
The magazine is still available with the pics, even if some of the information in the magazine might be inaccurate. (It refers to dates before my time, unfortunately, although I do remember some of the more recent shops that the article mentions.)

I was not reprimanding, but if anyone does use the data for any kind of family research, it is always beneficial to believe it is true accurate. I know how I would feel if I was researching any property or business

Thanks for the link, Anig. It looks like an interesting place to live in. My family were there c1900. Are there any Newspaper Archives on-line, does anybody know? I have visited the library/records office before to search.

Hi Judy
There is an excellent weekly newspaper Lichfield Mercury which dates back to 1815. Much of their libary of back issues was lost in a flood, but some are available at the library on micro-fisch.
If you want to trace your family in Lichfield, you will find the Heritage Centre most helpful (details on page 17 Lichfield Gazette for December - see www.lichfieldgazette.co.uk)

Yes, Paul, it was the Lichfield Mercury I was thinking of when I said that I was able to research the archives at the Library. I didn't know about the flood though. When was this?

When I said flood, I wasn't talking Noah type stuff but a pipe-burst in Bird Street. They moved to Breadmarket Street
Lichfield, WS13 6LG and some of the editorial to Tamworth. It's now printed in Stoke-on-Trent I believe.
If you can speak to Laura at the Heritage Centre she will give you more detail.

It's Brum. 
I asked the very same question of another gentleman the other day on a Family History site. The answer came back "just a few miles behind Cannes on the French Riviera"!  8)His name was Paul too!
