Coachman

I am looking for relatives in Tipperary - Dillon, McNaughten and Fitzgerald - 1830s to 1850s. Cornelius Dillon was a "Coachman", and he was my x2 great-grandfather. What would "Coachman" mean then? I can find no record of him. His son (my great-grandfather) Rudolf Dillon born Tipperary 1857; brothers Martin, Michael and Cornelius M; sister Bridget Dillon all born in Ireland 1840-1857. All moved to UK, but cannot find Cornelius Senior on any UK Census - so assumed he died in Ireland. Is there some kind of "pet name" for the name Cornelius?

Have you considered he might have been employed by Bianconi as a Coach Driver?
The more usual short forms for Cornelius are Corny and Con.

I also have ancestors who were Coachman.
My great Grandfather and my Grandfather worked on an Estate in Tipperary driving the coach and horses - basically they were servants driving the transport of the day for the masters of the estate.
As the motor car came in they often became the driver/chauffeur (as did my grandfather).

From UK death records; There was a Cornelius Senior b.1834 and died in 1884 in Dewsbury, Yorkshire. and a Cornelius Senior who died in 1849 in Hunslet, Yorkshire.
Any Good?

Just want to thank everyone for their help and replies.
Mindy100 I'm not sure about Cornelius Senior in Dewsbury or Hunslet - but it's a start!
GeoffP - thanks for the name Neil (Cornelius).
Rody Lee - I had not heard of "Bianconi", but will be looking into it.
again thank you everyone.
