BAIN and JAMIESON
« on: Friday 07 November 08 03:42 UTC (UK) »

My father was John Jamieson born in Nairn  his half siblings: Willie and Maggie Bain.
His full siblings: James (?) Isobel Jeannie and Douglas Ralph

I understand

*
Isobel married and moved to Aberdeen - then to Australia in 1965.
Jeannie married and moved to Essex
My father John moved to Aberdeen then to Australia in 1966.
And Douglas married in South Africa.

My father's father was also John Jamieson and his mother was Margaret Bain of Nairn.  They lived at no 10 and 20 Harbour Street, Nairn.  My granfather also had a brother Isaac Jamieson who was a lay preacher.

My grandmother Margaret Bain was also known as Maggie and her father was known as Bubby Bain

Any help tracing which line of Jamieson's and Bain's I come from would be fantastic.  There are so many of them.

Moderator comment: message edited to remove names and dates.  This is very recent and we don't encourage such details to be posted.  Help with the earlier generations would probably be very welcome.

Hi scotsbornaussie

Welcome to RootsChat  Smiley

You're starting in a period where the records are too recent to be available on line. Once you get back a little further it get easier to view censuses and BMDS on line  Smiley

If you haven't already, it would make sense for you to view your grandparents' marriage cert. on line at Scotlands People, the official pay to view site for BMDS and original census images (cut off for on line marriage cert. images is 1932). The marriage cert. will include their ages (to let you find your grandparents births - cut off on line for births images in currently 1907) and also confirm their parents' names including mothers' maiden names.

There are a couple of guides here on RootsChat to help you:

www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,43916.0.html
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,193879.0.html

Also to help you get your bearing on parishes and counties:

www.scotlandsfamily.com/county-map.htm
www.scotlandsfamily.com/parish-map-aberdeen.htm  - includes Nairn

One possibility in the 1901 census for John Jamieson Snr.'s family is this one - everyone showing as born in Nairn:

John Jamieson 38, fisherman
Bella Jamieson 38
John Jamieson 8
Isaac Jamieson 6
Alexander Jamieson 3
Bella Jamieson 1

Address: No 11 King St, Nairn
