I've very limited info on this man - my sister-in-law's grandfather-in-law (if that makes any sense).
He was born Leo Thomas STANLEY Q3 1896 Birkenhead 8a 562 (25 Jun 1896). He died 4 Mar 1953 as Leo WATKINS.
I have him on the 1901 census as Leopold T STANLEY with his mother and step-father (Mary E and George E J WATKINS).
When Leo married Margaret Eva JONES 12 Jan 1921 he used the name WATKINS.
Leo's father was Henry STANLEY (I believe this is from his birth cert which my sister-in-law has) and his mother Mary Ellen JONES, although we have not found a marriage for Henry and Mary Ellen.
We have the marriages for Mary Ellen JONES to Peter KIERNEY (7 Jul 1897) and then Mary Ellen KIERNEY to George WATKINS (2 Feb 1900), following Peter's death 17 Jun 1899.
I've had a look on the IGI but nothing comes up for Leo STANLEY or WATKINS.
We're hoping to trace back the STANLEY line if possible.

It looks on the face of it that MAry Jone didnt marry Henry Stanley - though he was willing to be named on the birth cert. MAybe they did, but there is little time from the date of Leo's birth (when birth cert indicates she is single, or have I got that wrong?) to her marriage to Kierney. ALso she marries Kierney as Jones and not Stanley.
So, it will be a challenge to get the right Henry Stanley to kick off tracing the Stanley line back. What occupation does he give on Leo's birth cert? what address is given for Leo's birth? If yuo hjappen to be lucky and find a Henry Stanley at that address in 1891, or happen to find him with Mary Jones in 1891, then you will be OK, othewise it will be guess work, and you run the risk of following a completey wrong line of Stanleys.

I cant give you any information on Leo Stanley, but there is a website and a lady who has done extensive research on the Stanley name.

OK, I've managed to get Leo's birth cert.
Henry is named as father, his mother is Mary Ellen STANLEY formerly JONES - but I really don't think she did marry Henry. I have a couple on my mother's side who had at least 3 children and the mother is noted with the same surname as the father but they never actually married.
Henry's occupation is (or rather was) "actor".
The place of birth (and residence of informant - mother) was 6 East View, Wright Street, Liscard.

In 1891 that address was occupied by a Julia BRADLEY, who appears to take in lodgers. She has moved to Toxteth Park, as a lodging-house keeper, by 1901. In neither census is Henry STANLEY (or any actor) her lodger.
In 1901 Mary Ellen (now married to George WATKINS) and Leo are in Pendleton, Lancashire. I don't have Mary Ellen before her marriage to Peter KIERNEY. Mary Ellen JONES is rather a common name, unfortunately, although we know her father's name was William.

RG12/4633/F32/P10 - neice of John HUGHES, living in Bettws Y Coed, but born in Birkenhead, Cheshire.
