Hello,im seeking info on Henry Vinson,born 1853 Dorking,Surrey,basketmaker.On the 1911 hes with his family in Guildford,Surrey.They are:

Rhoda Huh born 1857,Eastborne,hawker.
George born 1886,Holmwood,Surrey.
Mary Ann born 1888 Walton On Hill,Surrey.
Rhoda born 1894 Redhill,Surrey.
Alfred born 1900 Mitcham,Surrey.

All except youngest are basketmakers.

Ive been unable to find any trace of this family on any other census or record.

If anyone can help,even if its just to advise on whether Vinson is a known traveller name,id be very grateful,thanks,nel.

Don't think I've ever seen Vinson as a Romany name - but Vinden/Vindon definitely is in and around Surrey/Hampshire.

Sharon,many thanks for that.Some of the writing isnt too clear,or its possible he was misheard when he gave his name.Im also looking at the possibility he and his family were in police custody at the time,so he may have altered it a bit.Ill try Vinden/Vindon and see where that gets me,thanks again,nel.

Hello Nelwild,

Vinson is definitely a Traveller name.  It's actually a mispronunciation of Vincent.  They appear on the census as Vincent.  My Grt Gran was one  but I know nothing of her family.

Vince,you were dead right about them being Vincent.Ive found them on 1881,Henry born 1854,Great Bookham,Surrey London Rd,Uckfield traveller/hawker.

Theres also a Frank Vincent and family,Andrew Lowder and Thomas Smith.

Cant find any other entries,nor any marriages to a Rhoda between 1875/1910.

Frank is on Epsom Common on 1901 with Junex and Cooper families.

I still need to find Walter Mathews connection to Vincents,if there is a family one,but at least i know im looking for Vincents.
