John Hatton
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 19:56 UTC (UK) »

My gt.grandfather was John Hatton who married Margaret Craven in December 1871 at Manchester cathedral,John himself was born in Cheshire in 1839 the son of Samuel.
They then show up in Hulme in 1878/79 for the birth of my grandfather,Silas. In 1901 they show up as John and Margaret Hutton in Penge,Kent.
Beyond that John,Margaret and Silas seem to vanish from the census Between 1871-1891.It has been suggested they immgrated, but it seems odd they'd be there in 1878 for the birth of Silas, then vanish for another twenty odd years. Margaret i've traced quite well, but the Hattons are proving harder.Has anyone come across them anywhere?

Hi Cathy Cool

I am just writing to say Well Done for finding that census entry.

I would imagine that many others (like me) spent quite some time looking for it, without success.

Your efforts and your skill in finding it should not go unnoticed.

Best wishes

Thank you so much for your kind comments,
It took some finding !
I wish I could find them in 1881, maybe someone else will have better luck.

best wishes

 :)Thankyou!!
I've been all over the census for months and never found this before. In 1901 they're transcribed as Hutton, guess there's a few spellings to look at.Thankyou again for another piece of this puzzle,PLUS i now know they were still in the country, thanks.

I had a look at this again over the weekend and found my grandmother, amelia Hatton, in Croydon in 1911,she's with my aunt also called Amelia, however no sign of Silas(again).

My Gt.grandparents John and Margaret are there too, also in the Croydon area.

I did find a Silas Hatten, but the age doesn't tally, could be though, his age fluctuates a fair bit,it's the right area too.
