Hi, First of all I'm a complete beginner so i apologise if i sound silly. Recently i found a ww1 medal that belonged to my great granddad and have looked up his medal card. I asked my grandmother about him and all she knew what that she thinks he was from Galashiels and his wife was called Lily. I was wondering how i would find out more? His name is James Turner and at a guess would have been born around 1890? Unfortunately his son, my grandfather is dead so that is all i know.Thank you very much for your help in advance. Daniel

Hi
What was his service number from the medal card? Is his service record on Ancestry as well, as you may get additional info from it

Do you have a copy of your grandfathers birth cert as Lily's full name/maiden name will be shown on it.
That info will help to find the marriage of James and Lily
Their marriage cert will have his age and both his parents names
I have checked the Scottish 1901 and there are a number of James Turners b between 1889-1893 but none were living in or born in Galashiels

Hi
The best way forward is as above - starting with your grandfathers birth cert
