Hi,
I am trying to piece together my family history. Does anyone have any information on the Green family from Banffshire.
So far I know that my great, great grandfather was William Green born July 12, 1862 in Banffshire Scotland (I think Keith, Banff). He died in 1948 in Canada. He married Melinda Reddaway from Waterloo, Ontario. I think that his parents were John Green and Cecilia Mc Lean but I haven't been able to find any information on them.

Address: Cooperage, Rathven Banff
Parents' marriage: JOHN GREEN and CICILIA MCLEAN Marriage on 18 FEB 1860 in Keith, Banff
Some of their children's birth entries including William's from IGI:
1. JOHN GREEN Birth: 27 DEC 1860 Keith
2. WILLIAM GREEN Birth: 12 JUL 1862 Keith
3. PETER GREEN Birth: 31 MAR 1864 Keith
4. CECILIA SMITH GREEN Birth: 26 SEP 1866 Keith
5. ALEXANDER GREEN Birth: 16 JUN 1869 Rathven
6. CECILIA ANN GREEN Birth: 04 SEP 1873 Enzie
Have you been able to verify William's parents' names from somewhere, perhaps marriage or death certs.? There are a number of births for William Greens in Keith and surrounding areas in that time frame.

The 1860 marriage certificate which available to view on the official pay to view site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk will include parents' names for John and Cecilia.

Hi, I was just googling for information on the areas in Scotland where my family name, Green, has predominated and found your question. So I thought I'd let you know about my Father. James John Green was born in Rathven, Banffshire on 24th August 1899. He had two brothers and three sisters. His Father (my Grandfather) was Alexander Green (d. 1949) and his Mother was Louisa Jane Green.
