Another photo attachment query...

I'm really sorry if this has been covered laboriously in the past, but:  I'm attempting to attach a couple of photos which I've scanned in.  I've been trying to resize them in Irfan, but in spite of making them the size required (ie not more than 800 pixels wide), they are both too large in terms of KBs (about 525 each).

I'm pretty hopeless at this stuff, so I would be really grateful if someone could give me some guidance (in very basic terms, please!).

Hi Clara

There are various ways of doing it but I think I'd go for resizing to about 750 pixels wide. This will mean that the original scan, which sounds like a decent one by the size you've quoted , will be preserved rather than using any other methods which might reduce the information they hold.

hello Gadget!

Thank you for your help and patience, but even though I've tried to resize to less than 800 pixels width, the file size still shows the same (ie 526KB).  They are both A4+ size photos.

Gaaah.

Just a thought - I'll do them for you but  are you doing a 'save as' <newname> after you've resized?

Yup, I'm doing the 'save as' thing...

I've also just downloaded the latest version of Irfan, so I'm still not sure why I'm bungling!
