Dryleys Pottery
« on: Friday 14 November 08 03:45 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have information on Dryleys pottery which was made in Montrose in the mid 1800s.  I found a bit of information on the Internet but not very much.  For example, some of the pottery bowls had names on them, like the one in the photo I have attached.  Would these have been "made to order"?  Was this done by other pottery makers and a standard process.  Perhaps it was done if the piece was being presented as a gift.  I am wondering how expensive this piece would have been compared to other pottery that was available.  I believe this person was a relative and it was fascinating to run across it in a display case at the Museum in Montrose.
