GUTTERIDGE at Hambleden?
« on: Friday 14 November 08 16:20 GMT (UK) »

In 1844, John Gutteridge m. at Stokenchurch.
It is listed that he was from Hambleden and that his father was William.

The censuses say he was born abt 1821?
Is there a c. rec for him at Hambleden?
Huh

To complicate matters a bit, I found another John Gutteridge in 1861 (aged 19) who is listed as being from Hambleton Oxfordshire, who I feel may actually be from Hambleden, Bucks?

Is there perhaps a c. rec for him abt 1842?
Roll Eyes

Last question......
Are there a large number of parish records for Gutteridge at Hambleden, or just a few?

Thank you for checking that for me!

I have found a family in the 1841 census, who has a John Gutridge with them by 1851.
Sadly, each time the spelling of Gutteridge changes, as does the version of Hambledon/Hambleden..... in 1861 it is Hambleton, but by 1891 it is Hamilton?

Hi,

I noticed you mention John Gutteridge of Stokenchurch Oxfordshire and it just so happens that I'm looking to find further ancestory of a John Gutteridge in Stokenchurch though he was born in 1802. Maybe there is still a connection to Hambledon but also currently looking at Whitchurch, Oxfordshire as there are more Gutteridges listed there around the 18th century.

The John Gutteridge mentioned above had a son, George Thomas born 1850 in Farnham Royal/Hedgerly Bucks.

Not sure this is of any help to you but any further thoughts are obviously welcome?

The John Gutteridge you mention, was c. at Stokenchurch on 17 Apr 1803.
His parents are listed as James & Elizabeth.
John m. Charlotte Picket(t) and I have 12 children c. to them at Hedgerley Green?
John had a brother, James (b. also abt 1803, but no c. rec at Stokenchurch?) and a sister Sarah, c. on 1 Nov 1801.

James Snr (b. abt 1776) was buried at Stokenchurch on 7 Dec 1812.

There are other Gutteridges mentioned in the PRs at Stokenchurch, so I wondered if they might be relatives of this family....

Many thanks indeed for your reply and very helpful information, in particular the parents of John Gutteridge.

I can confirm that we (myself and my Cousin Tony) have the same info for John, his wife Charlotte and their 12 children ( Shocked No wonder there seems to be so many Gutteridges around these parts!) so that all fits nicely.

I'm now happily searching for James Gutteridge et al - onward and beyond!!!  Smiley

Thank you once again,

John

Thanks for this info.

What other records are there for Gutteridge at Hambleden?
Was there perhaps that c. rec for the other John Gutteridge c. abt 1842, that I saw in the censuses, who is somehow linked to this lot?

I'm afraid I can't help with the 1842 baptism, as the PRs I've got only go up to 1837.

These are the only other Gutt(e)ridge entries:

Baptisms

Sep 1(born Jul 31) 1822  Ann d/o William & Mary, labourer
Sep 24 (Sep 17) 1824 Charles s/o William & Mary
Jul 8 (Jun 10) 1827 Robert s/o William & Mary
Feb 28 (Jan 11) 1830 Elizabeth Jane d/o William & Mary
Jan 15 1832 (Dec 14 1831) Mary Ann d/o William & Mary

Marriages - only the ones you've already been given by Peony.

Burial - 5 Oct 1816 Sarah Gutteridge age 20

Thank you very much for letting me know which Gutteridges were at Hambleden.
Grin

I bought the Marlow marriages on microfiche and Cadmore End PRs on CD from BFHS, but Hambleden and Turville are the two parishes I would dearly love to access and search for my Stokenchurch families!

I will have a look and see how they fit into the neighbourhood picture?
