landers family
« on: Saturday 15 November 08 00:29 UTC (UK) »

Hello, First post, I have a query, on the 9th Oct. 1871 John & Margaret Landers registered the birth of a daughter Maryann at Newton Stewart. on the 29th of Sept. 1874 the same couple rgistered the birth of a daughter Mary Ann(there is this spelling difference) at Newton Stewart again. Is it safe to assume that the first child died, I've tried the death registers between the years but to no avail.   Perhaps someone can assist....... Thanks   Alex

Gadget, Thank you very much for your reply, the death does fit in as the family lived in Penninghame. I tried again on 'Scotlands People' just now but I still can't find it, I must be doing something wrong! Anyway thank you once again!    regards........  Alex

Oh dear. I'm very sorry, Alex, I forgot to put the date. It was 1872. Put it down as it being late in the day  Embarrassed

If you go to deaths and put in the details as I've given, you should be able to get it. The surname and first names are as listed. Select Wigtownshire and Penninghame as the parish. Don't put in a date of birth.

Hello Gadget, Thank you for that info, it worked ok. on the 'Scotlands People' site, if you keep documents that you have viewed on the 'Timeline' do you know how long they stay there for?   Regards........Alex

Hi Alex  Smiley

I don't tend to use timeline but the images that you've viewed and the searches that you've done stay there for as long as you want them. I have pages and pages and pages  Embarrassed

If you look along the top, below the header, you'll see 'viewed images' 'previous searches' 'timeline', etc. If you click on these you can view what you've looked at.

Don't delete anything though, because they're then lost forever and you'd have to research and pay credits to view them again.

Hi Alex -

Where and when?

Laudenum ( derivative of opium) was a pretty popular drug in the 19th century - Queen Victoria was supposedly a user:

Hello Kirsty, Going through some family photos and found one with a lady in it named on the back as Kate Galloway, it is probably from about the 1920's or 1930's. Got anyone with that name, around that time?? PM if you need a copy of it. I noticed the name Hawthorn in your pagelist are they from Castle Douglas?             Regards....................Alex
