Hi Alex
There was an Aunt Kate in my family. She would have been born around the turn of the century, I don't have the exact date to hand. She was the eldest daughter of Elizabeth Landers (born 1877)- Youngest sister of Mary Landers who married Alexander Marchall.
I would love a photo.
The Hawthorns are from the Gatehouse/Girthon area, so some of them may have lived in Castle Douglas. I haven't traced them all yet.
If you want any more information on this line with respect to the Landers/Galloway branch I can post more when I have more time.
Kirsty

I have been working a little more on this line and have hit a couple of snags, I wondered if anyone else could help.
I have managed to trace my line back as far as Thomas LANDERS (b c.1797) and Annie KELLY (b c.1801 Minnigaff) with a good degree of confirmation from certificates etc. I have 7 children to them: Jane c1825 - ? William 1830 - 1868 Margaret 1832 - 1855 John 1835 - 1919 Charles 1839 - 1926 Alexander* 1829/1839 - 1857/1867 Robert 1843 - 1849
*Slight query over Alexander's birth year, due to discrepancy between SP Death index and the MI. Both give age at death as 28, but differ by 10 years in year of death 1857 vs 1867.
Have been unable to find birth entries for Jane or Alexander in the OPRs.
From their death certificates I have got parents names for Thomas and Annie:
James Landers and Agnes Clark (parents of Thomas)
James Kelly and Whilmina Hunter (parents of Annie)
However this is where I get stuck.
As both fathers were named James I am very surprised that there is no son James, unless he moved out or died before the 1841 census.
To add further confusion Jane had an illegitimate daughter named Mary at some point. Jane married in 1855 to John Broom and went on to have several children with him. Mary was mentioned in Thomas's Will and Testament (1877). I have been unable to find any other mention of her.

I have just seen Alex's query on the KKD board re Landers in Balmaclellan 1792 census. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,332946.0.html
I think the link with the Pattersons may possibly come from this family:
Thomas Landers and Margaret Paterson Elizabeth 1774 Thomas 1776
What do you think the chances are of them being our lot?
Kirsty
