One of my ancestors was Johannah (Joan) Purcell b.1897 in Powerstown Clonmel. She married in England in 1921 I have a copy of the certificate. I know from some court records that the marriage only lasted for 2 years but there was not a divorce. I can find no more information in England of Joan Simpkin (nee Purcell), her husband remained in England but never re-married.
My question being what records would be available in Ireland that I could check to see if she returned to Ireland after 1923? This has always been a mystery that I would like to solve so any help that you are able to offer would be gratefully appreciated.
More recent history is more difficult. If you could fine tune an area, even a county, it would help. I have had useful infomation on 20 th century records from registers of voters that are online in Dublin research library, Thoms street directory for Dublin area, telephone directories, and cemetery records. There are also newspapers that are searchable online so you might find a death notice. In the fullness of time it would be nice if BMD records were digitalised in Ireland and it would make it more practical to search for names than the present system of trawling through each year, quarter by quarter,
Sorry cannot be of more help, best of luck anyway,
I know that she was born in Powerstown Clonmel. Her parents were married in Clonmel . In 1901 they were living in Waterford in the parish of Kilmeadan her father Thomas was a land steward.
This is the only information that I have of her time in Ireland. Thank you again brads
