Perhaps I should record parents names and ages?

Jane Warr
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 15:07 UTC (UK) »

Looking for information on Jane Warr.
She married Ingley Edmunds in October 1817, they went on to have 12 children that I know about. They lived in Cradley.
1851 census gives her birth place as Tardibigge Worcs. and an age of 52yrs
Any help gratefully received.

Hi
Tardibigge records are on the IGI at www.familysearch.org for that time so assuming you have looked and not found her then perhaps you need to check surrounding towns and villages.  Where is she in 1841? Ah, found her and both she and husband say "no" to born in county whereas they are in Cradley.  The seven children with them all say "yes".    Interesting!   HO107 1197/9 F40 p15

From the Cradley Vicar's Notebook 1857.  Ingley Edmunds was living on the Stourbridge Road Cradley, he worked at Corngreaves Iron Works Cradley Heath, rented a Church Pew at St Peter's Cradley and was Widowed.  Daughter Jane 17 No Church was too busy!  linell.

Thanks for that,
you've now given me a third option.
I had seen the Old Swinford entry in the parish records and was going with that until someone sent me an IGI entry for a Joseph Warr and Elizabeth Hick from Tardebigge with a daughter Jane.
Now we have John and Elizabeth in Brierley Hill.
Confusion reigns!!!

It would be the Brierley Hill Jane.  Tarrdebigge is way off, Brierley Hill is not far from Cradley, linell.

Hi Cember, I checked my 1851 Worcs Disc rather than using Ancestry and yes Jane born 1799 does say she was born Tarrdebigge, so that must be correct then, wouldn't be miss-transcribed by two different resources?  linell.

Hi Cember,

It used to be reckoned that a man, wife and two young children could walk 15 miles in a day.  Coach travel being a penny a mile on the outside and 3 pence (3d) on the inside.  So a journey to Cradley for a family of four would be 4s 4d (4 shillings and 4 pence) or 13/- (shillings).

So if you were an Ag. Lab.......

Cheers

Mike

13 miles would be a long way for us to walk today,as we are so used to a car.
In the days before motor cars they were a lot more mobile than I expected.

I have diary entries from the 1880's -1890's where they note going out for the day to Birmingham and walking there and back from Stourbridge.12 miles each way.
or taking the pony and trap they would go from Stourbridge to visit relatives in Devises and Cheltenham for the weekend. When they traveled to Bognor they might leave the pony and trap there to be collected later and return on the train. Incidentally I was surprised to find they had to have a licence to keep a pony and trap.
(some things never change LOL)

Tarrdebigge is also on the Birmingham-Worcester canal system though I doubt there was much leisure travel on the canals at that time.
In the time frame my OH, (she started this thread), is looking - Cradley,Lye, Dudley and Stourbridge were experiencing a massive population explosion as people flocked from miles around to these new industrial centres. My own rellies comming from London,Devises,Bristol,North Wales, Essex and Bognor- it must have been an exciting time  Smiley

I am also looking for info on Jane Warr.  This is what i have found:

Christened 16/12/1798 at St Bartholomews Chuch, Tardibigge.

Married Ingley Edmunds on 9/10/1817 in Rowley Regis.

12 children!!

Died 1855

I have looked on other peoples trees, and there seems to be conflicting info on her parents.  Some have her parents listed as being Moses Warr b c1760 and Elisabeth Hick b c1760, but others have her parents listed as being Joseph and Ann Warr.

I suspect there may be 2 Jane Warr's?  The above and another born c1792.

I am also looking for info on Benjamin Warr b c1801, who i think may be Joseph's son (and therefore possibly Jane's brother).

Regards

Ian Warr
