COMPLETED Help Please!
« on: Monday 17 November 08 06:54 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
Could someone please tell me if there is a Aberdeen in South Africa or is it only in Scotland?
I'm following another one of my 'brainwaves' to see if I can find this elusive Godfrey Moore, marriage and children.
It would be Ok if I could stick to the one thing, but I get waylaid so easily and then forget what I was doing in the first place.  Nanna moments?
Kind regards
Bev

Hi Bev

Yes indeed!

Aberdeen is a small town in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

Hi Bev

What time frame are you looking at for your Godfrey Moore?  What was his wife's name?

Have you searched the National Archives?

Hi again Moira,
I have ordered a death notice for a Maria Petronell Jacobs, born Vorster, formerly Moore and on the remarks below all the details, it gives the name of the surviving spouse and predeceased spouse Godfrey Moore, but there again my luck runs out because when I queried when I could expect this, I was informed that the woman who does these photographs had enquired about this was told it was unavailable, but she would keep trying. I might add that David van der Merwe who I sent the email querying delay with the order number with eGGS was most sympathetic.
Kind regards
Bev

Hello Moira,
Thanks for that - I had a quick look and there are a few Maria Petronella's and naturally with the mid 1800's half of them don't have spouses, even though later on with some of the brothers and sisters of the various Maria's there are spouses!
However, I will keep trying as I seem to have a sympathy with Godfrey Moore (he is my grandfathers brother) as no-one else in the family seem to care that there are unfilled gaps in his life - All I have is his date of birth and his enlistment (both times for the Boer War) and it seems to me that he stayed in South Africa after the finish of the war as his enlistment papers show his occupation as 'prospector', but I want to know more such as marriage, children etc.
Thanks once again,
Regards
Bev

Hooray!
Received my notification that the photo I ordered is ready once payment is made, so perhaps I will now find out some details of Godfrey.
