Stalker/Ferguson Kincardine in Menteith

Someone (Fergie? Pat?) had Stalkers and Fergusons in this area in this tree - here is a pic I found on my pc, taken at Kincardine in Menteith cemetery. Why I took it I cannot imagine!

Hi Val - yes you are right the Stalker are connected, but as have all my files packed ready to move cannot put my finger on it as yet !!!!. Will probably be off line for the next (whenever) they say 4 to 10 working days, will sort it out when I get back on line.

True.

I have a Christian Ferguson born in Robertson Lane in 1838 who then becomes Catherine and even Katherine but then I lose track of her.

The dates rule out Christian as part of my family tree. My Christian/Catherine was born in 1838 (100 years before me  Smiley)
I had hoped that there was a connection and even the names of the children are all 'family' names.
She might turn out to be there somewhere but not in the 'main line'.

Just went on SP to have a look at that one Ev (Christina) but the mothers name is Forsyth ?? will go back later and have another look.

Am intrigued now, just had another search on SP all districts etc, the only one that comes up is Christian Stalker other surnames Ferguson but this one died in 1889 Comrie ??
Anyone else got any ideas  Huh Grin

george stalker summers lane kincardine is listed as a widower in 1881
he also has a daughter christian stalker age 16
had a look at the IGI and there is a christina stalker born about 11th may 1864
kincardine by doune parents george stalker and christina ferguson
so it looks like george's wife died shortly after giving birth
why the death maiden name is forsyth and not ferguson i have no idea  Huh

Hi Ev - Still does not explain why I cannot find a death on SP for Christian Stalker m.s. Ferguson in 1864, it's on the MI but have tried every which way and have only come up with the two already listed..really was hoping that the death cert would give us her parents name etc..will keep trying but am running out of alternatives  Grin

Just in case it helps anyone to know the gaelic form of the name here is an excerpt from "In Famed Breadalbane" by Wm Gillies - chapter on Breadalbane surnames



STALKER.  G. Mac-a'-stalcair.  1565, James,  Ardeonaig; 1621, Finlay  Dow, Crannich; 1638, John  Dow, Crannich; 1644, John Dow, Kindrochit; 1763, Finlay, Keprannich.

James Mclnstalker, known as An Stalcair Bioch (The Brindled Stalker), was an agent of  Colin Campbell, sixth laird of Glenorchy. He murdered Gregor MacGregor,  son of James MacGregor, Dean of Lismore, in 1565. Soon afterwards he himself was slain by Gregor MacGregor of Glenstrae, at Ardeonaig.

the 1864 cert. for christina stalker
the forsyth name that is coming up on SP search is christina's mother's maiden
surname not her maiden surname
so it could still be her(although i dont know why ferguson is not showing for
other surname)
if you have already used 1 credit to look at the index does it show anything
for other surname ?
