Hi Annie

I don't have a clue what date we might be looking at.   When I found a birth for Cyril Jones in Northampton in 1914 I thought that must be him and therefore his father would have died in 1916 or 1917.   That Cyril's mother's maiden name was Smith but I can't find a marriage for a James Jones to anyone called Smith, let alone a Frances.

Funnily enough when I found the death details of William James Jones of the East Yorkshire Regiment his wife's name is Fanny Page, but they had six children, none of whom were called Cyril.   Anyway, I can't see that that William fits into my Hakes/Jones family at all.

Regards,

Diana

Hi Sandy

I keep forgetting to ask you if you know what details I might get from the overseas death registrations.   Would they say where the person who died came from?

Hi Diana

I have just got out my Uncle George's death.

At the top of the form it says An Entry in the Army War Records of Deaths of 1914-1921.

It then notes Rgtl. No, Rank, Name in Full, Age, Country of Birth (Just England),
Date of Death, Place of Death, Cause of Death.

Hi Sandy

Thank you for that information.   At least I can work out what age James would have been in every year of the War.   That would help to narrow things down a litttle bit, so it might be worth while to give it a go.   I could probably find out more about Tom and Harry that way too, so even if James didn't come to light it wouldn't be a wasted journey.

Just a quick update to say that I eventually found out that James JONES did die during WWI but not as a result of being a soldier.   He actually died of TB.

His wife and son were Frances & Cyril, but Cyril turned out to be several years older than I'd been told.

I was looking in Northampton and the family was living in Daventry.

It just goes to show that you can never rely on the "facts" as given by other people.

Thank you to everyone who helped.   It was much appreciated.
