Hi
I dont seem to be able to reply to personal messages....I am trying to find who my Grandfather's father was .I know he was a Chapman from Seaton Ross and not married to my Grandad's mother ,she was the housekeeper. My grandad was born in roughly 1915 before his father married.
I have so little to go on other than the name Chapman and no first name.
I will have to make the time to go to Seaton Ross and look in the Parish records. Grin

 Hi My greatgrandmother was called Florence Brighton/nee Pickering, had my grandad when working as a housekeeper but then went on to marry Mr Brighton...as being illigitimate was shameful in those days my we never talked about Grandads father,but notice there was a Percival Chapman on the names you give ,but the dates dont add up to him being..my grandad's dad and funnily enough my Grandad was called Percy Pickering and he was born in Seaton Ross around 1915 and died around 20 years ago.

Strange that I have a William Chapman(of Seaton Ross) b 1834 married Ann Brighton b1836, married around 1868/70. Children as follows

Joseph Chapman                          b 1869
James        ..                                 b 1871
William Stubbings    ..                   b 1873
Mark          ..                                 b 1875

Joseph married Emma  ? and had

George   Chapman                      b 1893
Albert E        ..                             b 1894
Teressa        ..                             b 1896
Mary E          ..                             b 1898
Lillian           ..                              b 1900

There is a plaque in the church of Seaton with the names of Seth & Thomas Brighton who were killed in WW1 along with Albert E & George Chapman.

Also found a Robert Fakingham b 1840 living with Robert Chapman family on 1841 census, down as grandchild ??

Now that is strange ..maybe as it was a small village many families married from the village...could Ann have been Florence's relation..I just wish I could work out who was Grandad Percy's father.Do you know if it is possible to view church records ..or do you need to make and appointment.?

All very confusing this family hitory lark. Don't know about church registers, believe you would have to have appointment sfrom somewhere, unfortunately I have never been able to get there, as following other family trails in the NE and Wales.

I have book of Mon Inscriptions for Everingham, Seaton Ross & Harswell. The only mention of Brightons is the two from WW1  in the church. There are no other family members buried there although there is a George Frederick Brieghton F.R.A. b 1895,died on 21/06/1922 aged 27 ,this is in Everingham church yard.

There is no mention of Pickering family anywhere......

Have also found out that Pocklington, as nearest village which held registers of births,marriages, deaths. There are also Chapmans here in abunance. You may learn more from here thro' Mormon site on BMD'S, who knows.

Will try and find out more........................regards, Colin

wow thanks so much for all your help..I think Grandma Florence's Mr Brigton may have come from away ....but not sure really ..but I do have Pickering relatives in Pockington and Warter(Next village).
I think I need to ask my aunt abit more although its difficult as I dont think she understands why I am interested. Grin

If you look on www.freebmd.org.uk you will find a marriage for Florence Pickering to Henry Brighton in 1915.   Getting that certificate will give you details of both fathers and should help you to trace them back.
Parish records are all held at the local record office and can be viewed on film there.  Often they have transcripts too.   It is also worth looking at the IGI on www.familysearch.org as they cover many parishes for baptisms and marriages.  Mostly pre 1900 though.
You cannot send pms until you have three posts to your credit so you should be OK now.

Stab in the dark here.  Do you have a James Chapman born in Leeds [rough guess would be about 1770] who later went to Wicklow.  I have no other information on this man.

I am doing my family history and have come across a problem. My great great aunt Elizabeth Kempley born 1830 Seaton Ross married John Wilkinson sept qtr 1852 Pocklington district but there was also Elizabeth Chapman born 1831 Seaton Ross and married John Wilkinson December qtr 1852 and I have found the details of one Elizabeth Wilkinson on 61,71,81,91,1901 and 1911 census but I cant be sure if I have the right one as the two Elizabeths details would be very similar. Do you have any info on Elizabeth Chapman and her husband John Wilkinson that might help prove it one way or the other.
