where is aghacolumb - COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 20 November 08 14:10 UTC (UK) »

Hello,

I have some civil records showing my Ferguson ancestor's "address" as Aghacollum and Aughacillum.  Would it be your opinion that these are all just different spellings of the same place?  The parish/district is given as Stewartstown in the first case and Cookstown in the second.

I have also found Aghacolumb on a list of Townlands and maps elsewhere on rootsweb.

I am wondering if anyone can tell me whether this place (Aghacolumb) still exists today and if anyone knows of any photos of the area.

I am the researcher with the 100 year old mother about to celebrate her birthday.  She very much wants to know where her mother was born.  Thanks always for your help.

Judith

Hello again. All townlands in Ireland still exist although the townland names aren't used as the sole 'address'  for a person any more.

Aghacolumb (as shown in www.seanruad.com) is 294 acres and in the civil parish of Arboe. Variations in spelling for place names is quite common.

Someone from that area will hopefully be able to give you a more exact location.

Judith

Aghacolumb was (part of?) the glebe land of the C of I parish of Arboe.

The townland lies south of Ballymaguire Road, and straddles Killycolpy Road. The townland's southern boundary is with the townland of Killycolpy. The settlement of Killycolpy is shown on most roadmaps.

Thank you both for responding to my question.  I just got back to it, so apologize for the delayed thanks.   Roll Eyes
