Holy Island - Pilgrims' Path
|
Hi
I've just checked my 'unread posts since last visit' - strangely, I found a posting made by me about 2 hours ago. I've never seen my own postings come up in 'unreads' before.
Also, this morning I decided to clear out some of my old postings so I went back to an old ToTb thread (a month old!) and found that I couldn't delete some postings - it just offered 'Quote'. Normally on unlocked ToTb threads you can delete, modify or quote.
Is there a gremlin in the works

Re Is there something going on that I don't know about
I'm sure this wouldn't be allowed under RootsChat rules
Thus said, the system is VERY slow at the minute - as I have read previously the DB is maybe in need of one of those "repair" events - per the skills of Trystan - but this is just a guess, given my lack of knowledge of such things

Hi Trish
I gave it a good telling off and it seems to have cured it for the moment
Shall I come and sort your end out as well?

PS - now it's slowed down

I know when I start deleting loads of stuff on my computer ... it tends to freeze up a bit .... I wonder if all the housekeeping being done by the new Mods isn't causing a bit of a back log !!
It's great ... it needs to be done ... but maybe they could do it one Mod at a time instead of all at once !!
And especially when there is more than 600 - 700 people on ( adding together "users" and "guests" ) .... when the board is already groaning and then people start moving stuff ... it grinds to a slow halt !!
The site just needs a rest !! ... poor thing !!

I didn't realise it was possible to delete old posts? Why would it be necessary? I clear out my PMs from time to time and my own email account on OE but that's about it. Dave

Its been normal practice for a while now for those of us who post a lot on the ToT to go back after a while and delete old posts, ie the YTG threads. And then every so often Tristan gives the ToTboard a haircut and snips its down to about 3 months growth.
Although I think you can delete other topics but if it was a search for something we wouldn't want to, a future connection may google it and contact us.
Incidentally all seems to be working well this morning but then nobody is out of bed yet!

Very cryptic, Kerry. Is there something I don't know about
Any way, I worked out the problem a while back and I'm embarrassed to admit that it was a mix up between Gadget and Gadget.

Hi Gadget/Gadget./etc (Gadget, are there more - I remember some names from the past) and Pels./etc (yes Pels., I remember when you tried unsuccessfully to continue as the unstopped Pels ....),
Is there any limit to how many alter egos anyone can have on RootsChat
And would RootsChat know anyway
Are there any Chatters who would like to tell us about their multiple personas? That is, to paraphrase the subject line, about something going on that we don't know about.
JAP (the unique JAP, the one and only, here or anywhere else as far as I know - and definitely no alter egos on RC!)
