Please if anyone has access to the 1841 census, could I possibly ask for a look up? I am trying to find John Henley who married Mary Spurway in 1826 at Dalwood. Mary was born in 1805 in Dalwood and I think John may have been born around 1801 in Dalwood. as the couple married in 1826 I would like to know if there were any children for this couple living with them in 1841 and if possible if they were still living in Dalwood. would appreciate any information or advice on this matter. many thanks, JUNE.

Hello Cathy, my grateful thanks to you for finding John Henley and his family,I am pretty sure that this is the right family as I have their baptisms in the early years, the only thing I am a bit concerned is that on all of the childrens baptisms it says the father was a butcher but on the census it gives as an agricultural labourer. I cannot find any of the family in 1851 or 1861. so unable to check if the fathers occupation referred to a butcher in later census's. many thanks anyway, it is much appreciated.I usually am able to look up the census sheets on ancestry.uk but my susbscription has expired and unfortunately at present cannot afford to renew it. regards, JUNE. I have many early parishes if at anytime I can be of help to you in look ups please dont hesitate to get in touch.

Hi June 1851 Dalwood John Henley head mar 47 ag labourer Dalwood, Devon Mary Ann " wife mar 43 wife " William " son 14 gen. servant " James " son 10 " Catherine " dau 7 " George " son 4 " Elizabeth Gould sis in law unm 52 Net Maker "
and in 1861 John Henley head mar 58 labourer and sexton Stockland, Devon Mary ann " wife mar 53 Dalwood, Devon Mary ann Fossey? daught m 31 " Ellen elizabeth Henley " 6 " Elizabeth ?? Fossey? grandau 2 Chidoeck, Devon Hetty " " 10 mo " Elizabeth Gould sis in law unm 63 Pauper Dalwood, Devon.
The 1861 is hard to read , it may not be Fossey or Hetty. On the 1841 Johns occ. was hard to read and i think it says farmer lab as opposed to other ag labs on same page.It doesn t read as butcher. Sorry forgot the references , let me know if youd like them.If Mary Anns maiden name was Gould then i might have the wrong family.
Best wishes cathy

Hi Cathy, thank you so much, I am wondering too about these two entries, I had been working on the Mary Surway and John Henley Marriage both of Dalwood.the 1841 is correct as the childrens names are the same as I have got from when they were baptised. but the 1851 and 1861 william and James ages are correct and the other children well they wouldn't have been on the 1841 census. but Elizabeth Gould sister in law that is where it goes wrong. JUNE.

Hello. I am not 100% sure but I believe that my William Bickford Henley is brother to John Henley of Dalwood. William immigrated to Nova Scotia pre 1834. He was born 1802-1803. He was a Sea Captain in his earlier years but he also farmed as well. I was always told he came from the Cornwall Area however research is leading me to Devon. He named his children, Julia B., John, William Hart, James, Mary Elizabeth, Samuel and Charles.
If there is any information to prove or disprove that William Bickford is connected to this line it would be appreciated. do you have the baptism record for William? I have yet to find a visual copy on Ancestry.
Thanks. Valerie Henley Newell
